Forms of telecommuting
Telecommuting can take many forms. It can be that your current, or prospective, employer is happy for you to work from home for some of the time; you might be in a profession that allows you to work from home for many companies at once, such as a freelance writer or web designer and communicate with your client via video phone or web meetings; or you are just looking for work you can do from home such as data entry and have little or no contact with your employee. This lens hopes to explain the pros and cons of each of these situations.
What's in this Lens
First - Sorting out the scams
When looking for telecommuting employment opportunities, be prepared for telecommuting employment scams. The internet is filled with 'work at home' scams and 'get rich quick' schemes. The best way to identify a scam from a legitimate telecommuting employment opportunity is to read the taglines carefully. If the ad sounds more like a sales pitch, it is most likely to be a scam since, legitimate employers advertise for help and not for sales. Also, when the employment opportunity sounds too good to be true with promises of high pay for less work, this should hint to you that you may not be dealing with a legitimate telecommuting employment. Genuine telecommuting employment opportunities clearly lay out the details of the job and the recruiters will be obliged to share with you detailed information about the business, the job tasks, job responsibilities, the pay rate and the time commitment involved.
You should also remember that telecommuting employment is not a business opportunity and shouldn't necessitate any kind of investment.

Telecommuting as a permanent job
For some "telecommuting work" is something weird and something they will be scared to try. But for some it means a whole new innovative way of easing up their work with their family life. For both these types of people telecommuting work will bring lots of benefits provided they have a head on their shoulders. The work involved in a telecommuting environment differs from working at the work place in many ways. The most visible difference is the time frame of the work. A person who works at a work site is stuck to a time frame and is not suppose to look into personal matters within this time frame. A telecommuting employee will have the freedom of choosing working hours. They can work at home or maybe in a telecommuting site which is located away from the work site. This freedom of choosing their time for work will ensure the flexibility of the job to suit the employee's life style.
Only worrying factor on the employee's side of telecommuting would be the little amount of money which they might have to spend on the communication medium. But this too will not be applicable in some companies where the company will provide the employees with the computers and the internet, sometimes even paying their telephone bills. A facility to log into the company's internal network will make sure their communications are done regularly. The use of a group chat is a smart option.
Telecommuting work does not mean that the employee will permanently be linked to the company only by a communication medium. The days of work done at the workplace and at home can be split into preferred quantities. That will ensure to keep the employee within the circle of the company's policies and the culture.
