What Are Hemorrhoids?
The ability of your body to actually do this lies in hemorrhoid tissue. The itchy, burning, annoying little hemorrhoids that you typically treat topically with over the counter remedies are actually always present in your anal arena, and do have a positive purpose.
There are actually healthy hemorrhoids - the ability of the anus to "hold it" when necessary, to not leak when coughing or sneezing is when hemorrhoids are doing their job. Unhealthy hemorrhoids are the itchy, bleeding, inflamed redness that's so uncomfortable that you can't sit at your desk.
Some people suffer from bleeding hemorrhoids. This is usually caused by internal hemorrhoids. Because it's difficult for one to see them, we don't know that it's there. This the most common form of the condition.
There is commonly an urge to go to the bathroom (number #2) after just having done so. This continual pressure on the rectal area causes the hemorrhoid to bleed. The little bit of blood is usually seen when wiping.
External hemorrhoids are the less common, but more acute form of the condition. Also called thrombosis, external hemorrhoids are the groups of small bumps that can be seen around the anus. Thrombosis can cause bleeding, discomfort, and if not treated adequately, can lead to other health issues.

What Symptoms Do Hemorrhoids Cause?
The term "hemorrhoid" was actually coined by Hippocrates and used to describe the blood flow around the anus. It's derived from the Greek, and there is mention of it in many cultures dating back as far as Babylonian times. So can you imagine Julius Cesar sitting on his throne with his crown of thorns and case of hemorrhoids? Hemorrhoids are an equal opportunity condition. There is no race or gender factor - anyone at any age can experience hemorrhoids.
Overall, men are diagnosed more often than women, and the largest demographic is men and women ages 45-65. According to several websites there are over 10 million individuals who have been diagnosed with hemorrhoids.
So what causes hemorrhoids? Most common ailments include pregnancy, heavy lifting, excessive diarrhea, varicose veins, diabetes, obesity, and uncomfortable seating. When large amounts of pressure are placed on the rectal area like when a woman in labor is pushing, or pushing down and lifting up to pick up large items.
Besides the obvious embarrassment that you suffer when you experience a case of hemorrhoids, here are some of the symptoms patients endure: obviously the itchiness and swelling take precedence.
It feels like your bottom is on fire and bulging, making it difficult to sit down. Some people use little cushions to alleviate some of the pain caused by hemorrhoids. While we can't change the fact that women have to push during labor, or that we manner in which we pick up a heavy object, we can treat the condition.

What Do Internal Hemorrhoids Look Like
What Can Cure Hemorrhoids?
Now, there are obviously doctor remedies for hemorrhoids, some that have been used long and that are tried and true. And then there are some new cures.Of course there are over the counter measures as well, and you may not know it, but there are actually natural and home remedies available. First of all, when you have that pain in your butt (excuse the pun), your first instinct will be to call a doctor, and for the first time this may be a good solution, just to make sure.
But be wary - there are several remedies (including surgery) that a doctor can suggest. Some of the new, prescription drugs that can treat certain conditions have more intense side effects than the condition itself.
There are topical and analgesic options as well as commonly known Preparation H , Avatrol and Zen Med just to name a few. There are surgical options such as banding, which is exactly as the name sounds - putting a rubber band around the base of the section of hemorrhoids and cutting off the blood flow to the lesions.
Also, using a local anesthetic, a surgeon may opt to simply cut them off. The most painful, and evasive procedure that I have seen is called the Doppler litigation. Just as the name implies, it involves putting in an anoscope, finding the artery that supplies the blood to the hemorrhoid and cutting off the supply of blood, causing the swelling to eventually dissipate.
This sounds like a ton of fun. This is expensive and not often done. If you'd rather take a more natural approach, learn about hemorrhoid home remedies that work!

Your lens is very informative and comprehensive. I have given a 5 star rating. I know that natural hemroids remedies provide a good alternative to traditional medical treatment which has been proven to be totally ineffective in treating hemroids. In addition, surgery is not indicated in every case.
