A Real-Life Example Of What Affiliate Marketing Is
You have discovered an ebook (also known as electronic book, normally in PDF format, which can be downloaded instantly upon payment) about how to get rid of acnes on your face (and the ebook costs $40).
The author of the ebook has an affiliate program available which allows you to promote the ebook for a 75% commission (meaning you'll receive $30 in commission for every single sale).
You sign up as an affiliate to promote the ebook and receive a special link, called the affiliate link (where it has a unique ID attached to it, which will tell the author of the ebook which affiliate has referred the sale, so that he could pay the affiliate accordingly) which you can give out to potential customers.

The author sees a sale of the ebook that is referred by you, and you receive $30 in commission for the sale.
