What Is A Stroke Important Information

This site is dedicated to those people who have had a stroke and still have questions about what is a stroke? It is my experience that doctors are great but really do not take the time to answer the questions you have. I will try to answer the important things you want and need to know in a language you can understand. As a stroke survivor I also had many questions that needed to be answered about what is a stroke and life after a stroke.

WHAT IS A STROKE?

Two Types Of Stroke

There are many people that have to deal with the problems of having a stroke at some point in their life. This is not something that is going to be easy to get through but it is possible. A stroke is a disease that is going to affect blood vessels that supply blood to the brain.

A stroke will usually happen when a blood vessel that brings oxygen and nutrients to the brain bursts or is clogged by a blood clot or some other mass. This is thought of as a rupture or a blockage and part of the brain does not get the blood and oxygen that it needs. This is a very dangerous and scary time for anyone to go through. This means not only the people that have the stroke but also for the people that are around when this ordeal is going on.

When there is not enough oxygen the nerve cells in the affected area of the brain, which causes them to not work, and this means that the part of the body that they control does work right either. This is a very hard problem to deal with and especially after a severe stroke has taken place. There can be permanent damage to the brain cells, which cannot be replaced.

There are two types of stroke. One is the Ischemic stroke that is cause by a blockage of the blood vessels. The other is called a hemorrhagic stroke and bleeding causes this. Bleeding strokes have a much higher death rate that is caused by clots.

The Ischemic stroke is the most common form. It is going to occur when a blood clot forms and blocks the flow in an artery bringing blood to part of the brain. Blood clots usually form in the arteries of the brain. This is called a cerebral thrombosis stroke. This is going to usually happen first thing in the morning or at night.

A hemorrhagic stroke is a hemorrhage that occurs when a blood vessel on the brains surface ruptures and bleeds into the space between the brain and the skull. A cerebral hemorrhage will happen when a defective artery in the brain breaks and this will fill the surrounding tissue with blood.

When a blood vessel in the brain bursts, pressure from the blood will compress part of the brain. If the person does happen to live through this ordeal, the pressure will eventually go away. Then the brain may regain some of its former function again. It is important to seek medical treatment as soon as possible when a stroke occurs. This way a person can get the help and the treatment that they need to recover and live through this devastating ordeal that can cause great damage.

Having a stroke when you are overweight is something that many have to fear in life. This is a very big problem and it is increasing every day.

Obesity is determined by how much body fat you have. Your body is made up of water, fat and proteins and many other vitamins and minerals as well. If your body has too much fat, you are at risk for health problems especially if this fat is located in your middle section of the body. Some of the risks that you may be dealing with are high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and heart disease and stroke.

Obesity is now known as one of the major reason for a stroke. Some of the reasons are not sure but there are some that are being found out all the time. There are many researchers that are taking this upon themselves to find out what they have to do in order help those that are dealing with being overweight and worrying about their health as well. Having a stroke can happen to anyone at anytime but being overweight is going to contribute to this growing problem.

Even when there are no effects on the risk factors, obesity is going to increase the risk of having heart disease. It will also harm more than just the heart and blood vessels in the body. It is major cause of the problems that people have with gallstones and can even make muscle and joint problems start to arise in the body as well.

Being overweight is hard on the body especially the heart and when you are taking care of yourself by eating right and getting plenty of rest and exercise, you will find that the effects are going to start weight in on your body. You will notice that you soon start to have shortness of breath and even pains in the chest. This is a true sign that you have something wrong and you need to seek medical attention.

Not to say that overweight people are the only ones at risk for a stroke. This is just not the case. However being overweight does contribute to the problem and can make it worse for any person's health. It can affect the heart and other organs of the body and this can eventually cause a stroke to occur and leave a person disabled or even bring death on way to early. It is always best for a person to see a doctor and get their weight under control before it is too late.

WHAT IS A STROKE?

Stroke Damage

There are some serious problems that a stroke can bring to your body. It is a very dangerous disease and something that should be taken seriously when talking about it. There are many people these days that are suffering from the side effects of stroke and all that it can do to the body. This is something that you should think about so that you can prevent it before it happens to you.

The brain is very complex and it does control the different body functions. If a stroke does happen and blood flow cannot reach the place that controls a body function, that part of the body will not work, as it should be. This is going to cause many problems in the body. However it is important for people to understand that surviving a stroke is amazing and the alternative is death. Being able to recover is the best that you can hope for and moving on past the problems that the stroke caused for anyone that suffers this terrible experience.

If a stroke does happen toward the back of the brain, it is likely that the person will have a problem with their vision from that day forward. The effects of the stroke will completely depend on the location of the obstruction and the extent of the brain tissue that is affected by it. This is how people can determine what the disabilities are that they will be faced with after a stroke.

The effects of the stroke damage will depend on the some factors including not only the place where the obstruction went on but also how much brain tissue is affected. However, one side of the brain will control the opposite side of the body and a stroke that affects the right side of the brain will have the effect on the left side of the body. This could cause the following damage:

* Vision problems.

* Memory loss

* Paralysis on the left side of the body

If the stroke does happen on the left side of the brain, the right side of the body will be affect then and produce some of the following problems:

* Speech and language problems

* Slow and cautions behavioral

* Memory loss

* Paralysis on the right side of the body

Knowing what to expect can make give you more knowledge of what to expect. However this is not going to any less scary. Having a stroke will usually mean that the victim will have to go through a lot of therapy to get back to the way that they were before. This is something that will take time and a person will have to be willing to get better and make this happen for them.

This is the question on many minds of stroke victims and partners.

It is safe to say that there are many elderly and younger people that can safely enjoy sex after they have had a stroke. It is very important to remember that sexuality is not just the act of having sexual intercourse. It will involve much more. You need to feel feminine or masculine and attractive to yourself and your partner. Think about the way that you feel and how you look. Disability insurance ensures that in the event of a long term leave from your employment, that you and your family still have money coming in for the day to day expenses that have to be paid. Even after recovery, if you are unable to work, disability insurance will continue to pay you.
Life insurance will protect your family in the event of death. Your family will suffer enough emotionally from the loss of a parent, so it is important to at least make sure that they are financially secure.

POLLUTION AND HEALTH

Is Pollution Responsible For Many Of Our Health Problems?

It is very hard to correlate disease and environment to life span. Why does some one who has never smoked a day in their life get lung cancer? Why were our ancestors healthier yet ate more fat, and had a bad diet compared to today. It is this author's opinion that the additives in our food, our sedimentary life style and air and water pollution have much to do with this.
