You have heard about it, but do not know what it is. Here is the answer you need to know.

What is MP3?

MP3 is a file format for audio. Just like like there are file formats for dicuments, pictures, etc. There are several types of file formats for audio, but MP3 is the most popular. Why? Because, it is free to use, the quality is near CD quality, full songs are relatively small files, and therefore there are easy to transfer from the internet. One last advantage is that MP3 files can be compressed. This means that when you can normally store or record 80 minutes of music or audio, now you can store up to 8 hours of music or audio.

Where can I listen to MP3's?

1. Any Computer
2. Uncompressed MP3s can be listened in most CD or DVD players that can play CDR's (Recordable Compact Disks.)
3. Compressed MP3's can be played on any CD or DVD player that has a label that says MP3 on it.
4. Of course, MP3 players.
5. Now many cell phones and personal digital assistants(PDA)have MP3 players. Example, Palm Pilot, Pockets PC, Blackberry, etc.

MP3 players

They come in different sizes and shapes. They are manufactured by different companies. The important thing is to know what type of storage and how large. The storage is where the actaul files of music will be saved. There are two types of storage: hard disk and or flash. Basically, Hard Disk (HD) is like the hard disk in your computer. Because, it is a disk, it stores more audio, ex. 20 gigabytes. But, if you are an active user, it may hinder your listening pleasure or damage the player. They tend to be bigger in size and more expensive. The flash system uses a chip - like the one in the digital camera - to store. It stores less amount of audio, but they tend to be smaller in size. If you are an active user, it will not hinder your listening pleasure, and may not suffer damage. They also tend to be less expensive than HD.
