What's Your Blood Pressure Today?

This lens was created to help you control your blood pressure by monitoring and posting your results on this lens. Do you have a doctor's appointment coming up soon? He/She might ask you what your blood pressure has been lately and if you have a record of it here you will be able to write it down before your appointment. Your doctor then may be able to help you control your blood pressure better. Yes, I know everyone will see it! But, if you want to help control your blood pressure instead of it controlling you then isn't it better to have a caring group of people to support you? One in three Americans have high blood pressure! A staggering amount! Let's try to get control of your blood pressure and mine together!

Why I Created This Lens

Well as if the statistics of one in three Americans having high blood pressure wasn't enough! The main reason I created this lens is because my boyfriend Chip has had high blood pressure ever since I've known him. Recently we had a very bad scare where his blood pressure shot up sky high, along with his blood sugar being extremely high, and low potassium. This put him in the hospital for 10 days! When he came out we changed some things in our lives. One of them being to check his blood pressure every single morning and night. This lens is one way that we will make sure he keeps control of his blood pressure and we will be accountable for reporting it to our new Squidoo family. I hope that you will participate with us for a healthier world!

Do You Have A Blood Pressure Machine?

Chip and I use this particular machine to monitor and try to control his blood pressure BT-9000HL Deluxe Thinline Arm Blood Pressure Monitor  It's been a great machine for the last two years that we have had it. I couldn't find it on Amazon because I think it's an older model but here are some of the latest monitors from Samsung.

What Is A Good Blood Pressure Reading?

Blood Pressure Association

What blood pressure readings mean:

Less than 120 over 80 (120/80): Your blood pressure reading is ideal and healthy. Follow a healthy lifestyle to keep it at this level.

Between 120 over 80 and 140 over 90 (120/80-140/90): You have a normal blood pressure reading but it is a little higher than it should be, and you should try to lower it. Make healthy changes to your lifestyle.

140 over 90 (140/90) or higher (over a number of weeks): You may have high blood pressure (hypertension). Change your lifestyle - see your doctor or nurse and take any medicines they may give you.

Report Your Blood Pressure Numbers Here!

Your on the honor system here! So if you don't give the correct numbers then you are only hurting yourself. PLEASE KEEP THIS RESERVED FOR BLOOD PRESSURE DISCUSSION ONLY. I HAVE A GUESTBOOK FURTHER DOWN FOR COMMENTS ABOUT THIS LENS. THANK YOU

What Did I Do?

Think about what could have made your blood pressure so high or so low? Did you eat something you probably should not have eaten? Did you not exercise enough or too much? Did you not take enough blood pressure medicine or did you take too much blood pressure medicine?

What might I have done to make it this high?

Nochipra says:

His # jumped pretty high tonight for some reason? Guess he should have taken more meds than he probably did?

Nochipra says:

Chip's # is not too bad for him today but he will still be taking the meds.

Nochipra says:

The # is still a little high for him but not too bad. The meds must have worked kinda last night?

Nochipra says:

The # is high but not too bad for him. The bottom # is kinda high?

Nochipra says:

His # was kinda high, so he's taking the meds.

Nochipra says:

His # was pretty high tonight but we had a huge dinner out on the grill and he ate a big lunch too. Probably had a good amount of salt content? I guess we'll know if his neuropathy swells up his legs badly tomorrow?

Nochipra says:

His number is still a little high for him so he's still taking something but I think he took about the right meds last night?

Nochipra says:

Time for meds. His number is still kinda high this morning.

Nochipra says:

His number was about the same as this morning. Guess the meds will need to be changed?

Nochipra says:

His number was pretty high today so he'll be taking the meds. Probably needs to drink more water today since it's warmer?

Nochipra says:

Tonight Chip's number was kind of high. He had quite a bit of meat for lunch and dinner though. Could have done it?

Nochipra says:

His number was kinda high today. I don't think the meds did the complete job last night?

Nochipra says:

Definitely pretty high tonight, so he's taking the meds.

Nochipra says:

Doesn't look like the meds he took last night did that good? It's still kinda high? Probably will have to get them changed eventually

Nochipra says:

It's a little later today so the meds from last night probably wore off?

What might I have done to make it this low?

Nochipra says:

He took the right meds last night.

Nochipra says:

He took the right amount of blood pressure meds for his number this morning:)

Nochipra says:

Chip must have taken the right amount of blood pressure meds last night because his number was pretty good today.

Nochipra says:

Chip's number went down a little from this morning on the top number but his bottom number was the same. He must have taken the right amount of insulin this morning.

says:

My blood pressure is normally around this value but sometimes drops a lot lower and I sometimes faint. I've had this since my early teenage years which is why I actually need more salt then the average person, especially during the summer since I'll easily drink 3-4 liters of water.

Nochipra says:

For Chip this blood pressure reading of 155/77 is not too bad for him. I think he took the right amount of medication last night before he went to bed.

I have always had problems with my blood pressure, either it is too high or too low. But it is one of the most important things that you need to keep track of.

I like this lens :) While my blood pressure is entirely normal, seeing all the statistics and info was really neat. Quite the eye opener!

Thank you so very much! Of all my lenses this one and my blood sugar one are probably the most important but much more difficult to get people to come to. Bless You!

We have tried having him taking the meds every day before and several times his blood pressure has shot down. When he is in what is considered a "normal" range he usually feel pretty bad and sluggish. When it is in the slightly higher range is what he considers normal for him? When it is in the slightly higher range and he does take the meds then about an hr or so later he about falls asleep or almost feels like passing out. He has several dr. appts. coming up & probably needs new meds, he's been on these 3 a long time (minoxidil, lisinipril, & metoprolol) When he takes the metoprolol (which has to do with the heart rate it, it really knock him for a loop unless it was really high & he needed it.) His numbers still fluctuate, so we are just judging by how he feels & the numbers? It may not be right but we will have to see what the drs. say?

Blood pressure is a big problem for me too. I take two meds for my blood pressure... and still I get high readings. Recently I started taking herbs... and I'm determined to find a way to get off these medications. All the best to Chip... I don't understand why he takes his meds only on days the blood pressure reading is especially high. Anyhow... your lens is now blessed by an angel. 5*

Interesting lens, my blood pressure has always been good usually around 110 over 70 or 80, I work hard at keeping healthy and fit. Regular visits to the gym do make a difference. Will check out your blog

I've never had problems with my blood pressure. They always tell me how 'perfect' it is. I had to go to the ER in November after a possible black widow bite and my blood pressure was sky high. Very scary. They were able to bring it back down but I am much more aware of it now. Nice lens!

Helpful information for good health. Many people affected are not aware they have high blood pressure issues. Something to think about.
