The most recent public display of global warming awareness is AL GORE's new documentary on global warming. He states the facts and backs them up by alarming findings by scientist. His documentary is a must see if you are not aware of the earth's changing climate.

Carbon Dioxide
If you don't know anything about global warming then the first thing to understand about it is that the cause of global warming is CO2 - Carbon Dioxide.
The sun is our major source of heat that warms the planet. When the suns rays beam down on us our ozone layer traps the solar rays and keeps the planet warm, but with all the unnatural gases, fossil fuels, and trees being cut down the ozone layer keeps more carbaon dioxide in our atmosphere then wanted and this causes the tempurature to rise in the planet. How is this harmful? The next facts will astound you...

The Signs
Signs of global warming are all around us. I think the most prominent sign would have to be the abundance of hurricanes and tsunamis that we have witnessed over the past couple of years. The two that stick out in my mind are Hurricane Katrina in the Southeast of the US and the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004 that killed 300,000 people.

These "nature" occurances are not natural at all because they have increased within the pasted 10 years in size and frequency. Within 2006 alone 3 tsunamis occured. Not to mention the 10 typhoons that Japan experienced in 2006.

The surge of warm most air rising and the condensation causes massive hurricanes/typhoons throughout the world. Causing distruction of property and lives.

Hurricanes, typhoons and tsunamis are not the only destructive forces that have been on the rise, but the heat as well. This causes more droughts and longer heat waves. Also, kills plant life and vegetatian with wildfires and drying up rivers, streams, and lakes. Doing so kills animal species, plantlife, and people. Also more diseases are occuring. Malaria is on the rise again, west nile, SARS, etc etc.. all caused by bacteria and insects that were under control with the controlled weather climates of past centuries, but within the last 10 years and the vast amount of heat these insects are on the rise.

Have you heard of our polar ice caps melting? Yes, but did you know that this is an important factor. If the large glaciers in the world suchs as Greenland, the Artic Glacier, and Antartica melted... the land masses of the world would be engulfed in water. They say that if the shelf ice in Antartica and Greenland melt then the sea level would rise and cities like San Francisco, New York, the state of Florida, and the Netherlands would hardly exist. Sea level would rise more then 20 feet causing the vast amount of lives to be lost and many more devistated.

Be active!
- Reduce your impact at home: use energy efficent appliances, light bulbs, and reduce electricity. Recycle, reuse, and reduce the amount of garabage you put out into the world.

- Reduce your transportation: by low emission vehicles. Walk when you can, ride a bike when you can, take public transportation: monorails, bart, transbay, etc. Car pool!

- Tell people about it! Help spread the word when you can. Educate people about the facts and the solutions. If you tell one person, they tell another and another and another, etc, etc

Only you can make a difference so that others can experience the opportunities and the beautiful earth as you have.
