In my last "Wheel" article I mentioned the discovery of the wheel and how it has progressed over time. I also discussed how some people's "wheel fettish" is the 2-wheel variety of transportation. Most people become intrigued with wheels at a very young age, whether its the baby in her walker or the toddler on his tricycle. But as we grow older, we tend to prefer more than the 2-wheel variety of transportation in my previous article, with a LOT more power behind them.

Getting Around With 3 wheels

Honda Motor Company whose founder and President was Soichiro Honda, produced the first 3-wheel ATV back in 1970 featuring large balloon tires instead of a mechanical suspension. In 1982 the first 3-wheeled Utility ATV, the Honda ATC200E Big Red was created featuring both suspension and racks. It quickly became popular among hunters and other trail riders.

Other 3-wheeled types of transportation include the

----- Adult Tricycle--which generally has a "basket" or rack between the back wheel for carrying items and the

------Recumbent Trike -- with its sleek styling that is a cross between a bicycle and a tricycle, in which you sit in a seat with a back to it, in slightly reclining position. These Trikes are used both for pleasure and for sport.

------Goldwing Trike is another Great 3-wheeler. These are really awesome looking rides and can be customized.

4-Wheel Modes of Transportation

Although the Automobile has gone through numerous stages of design and technology, from steam to electricity, it was around 1910 that the gasoline internal combustion engines achieved dominance.

In the United States, the Duryea Motor Wagon Company founded by brothers Charles and Frank Duryea in 1893, became the first American automobile manufacturing company. However, it was Olds Motor Vehicle Company (later known as Oldsmobile) founded by Ransom E. Olds, that would dominate this era of automobile production in the early 1900's...... Shortly thereafter, Cadillac (formed from the Henry Ford Company), Winton, and Ford were producing cars in the thousands. Other great auto dealers include, Chevrolet and Dodge.

There are numerous 4 wheel modes of transportation besides the car, such as:

Trucks.... often preferred by guys and gals alike and can be used to carry any number of things.

Jeeps..... sort of defines the owner as the more "outdoor" rugged type of person.

SUVs...... are a very family friendly vehicle, with lots of room for kiddos and their stuff.

Vans...... particularly the cargo van are great work vehicles with lots of storage area for work related equipment and supplies.

4-wheeler.. a great little ATV for family fun.
