Science has proven that the strongest symptoms of ovulation are an increase in progesterone levels, a sharp increase in estradiol, and increased Basal Body Temperature (commonly referred to as BBT). By starting an menstrual cycle chart and charting this basal body temperature, we can predict the most probable day of our cycle in which ovulation will occur.Basal body temperature refers to the lowest temperature of the female body at rest. By following these simple rules, you can build a very accurate menstrual cycle chart:
- Take your temperature immediately after you wake up every morning. Immediately record the reading on your menstrual cycle chart.
- Don't leave the bed: Leave the thermometer on the nightstand or headboard. Leaving the bed can change your temperature and give you a false positive.
- Try to take your temperature at the same time every day. Set an alarm clock if needed!
- Use the same thermometer each day. This is crucial for understanding the process of when do women ovulate.
- No eating, drinking, or even talking before taking your temperature.
- Make sure your thermometer has tenths of degrees. For example 97.2 degrees.
As you graph these temperatures each day on your menstrual cycle chart, you get a clear picture when your body started the ovulation process.
As you can see on 15th day, the BBT spiked almost 1 full degree where the biggest daily move previously was less than ΒΌ a degree. This significant change is indicative of ovulation! If you complete a menstrual cycle chart for several months and see this happening around the 15th day of your cycle, you know you should plan for an intimate night on the 14th day of your cycle going forward. Sperm can survive several days inside the female body, so by planning intercourse a day or two before ovulation is ideal. By starting a menstrual cycle chart and understanding when do women ovulate, you are sure to increase chances of getting pregnant.

- There are clearly a lot of opinions here which show just how difficult it is to become pregnant. We have tried for upwards of 12 months with no success. We tried out all the various methods as well as considering IVF but our medical doctor was adamant we carry on and follow the 'natural' approach, simply by weight reduction and conscientiously using the ovulation schedule. It wasn't until I just read the storyline related to this handbook ( http://www.ouropinionis.com/stories/our-pregnancy-story.php ) that we started to better realise why I wasn't falling pregnant. You often pick up anytime you chill out, forget about what the problem is (it is not that simple is it?!) that things begin to happen. In our circumstances it was correct and so I put it all the way down to the expertise I gained because of reading this. It might not work for every person but nonetheless , after having a entire year of trying I became ready to give almost anything a shot therefore we are thrilled I did so.
