When We Live in Seattle

Dream Until Your Dreams Come True
At one point I thought I might move to Tucson, which seems like a ridiculous idea looking back. I hate the heat. My mom was going to move us to New York when I was seventeen. That obviously fell through. No matter how many opportunities came up, I never made it out of this state. I like to think that things happen for a reason. The reason I never left was because I was supposed to meet my fantastic husband. But now that we have met, fallen in love, and started our own little family, our thoughts are to the possibilities of our life.
It's not that South Carolina is a terrible place to live - other than the choking humidity, the hurricanes, and the occasional backwards thinking. I love to drive around and take pictures of the countryside. The upstate is absolutely gorgeous. It is nice to wear shorts in the winter. But I have never felt like I belong here. I believe that everyone has to find there special place. It may, very well, end up being the place they grew up. But for me that is just not the case.
My husband and I talk about escaping South Carolina some day. One of the main places we talk about is Seattle. It seems like it would be the perfect place for us. We love coffee, mountains, the ocean, hiking, and boats. I would like to share my exploration of what I find interesting about Seattle. If you are interested in moving to or visiting Seattle as well, I hope you enjoy my little virtual journey.

Recreation
Seattle is within driving distance to some breathtaking hiking. The Washington Trails Association has loads of information on everything one needs to hike in Washington state. We have some great hiking here in South Carolina, but when I see the pictures of some of the trails in Washington it doesn't really seem to compare. Seattle is also home to a number of beautiful parks and gardens. The Japanese Garden at the University of Washington's Botanic Gardens looks amazing. I love taking walks through parks. My husband is also an avid cyclist and Seattle looks like it has a fantastic bike program. That is something that we do not enjoy on such a large scale here in South Carolina. I found a number of mountain and road bike trails on Trails.com as well.

Coffee
Seattle is the birthplace of a number of coffee chains in the world - notably Starbucks, one of my favorites. A coffee lover's utopia, Seattle has a coffee shop on every block. That sounds like heaven to me - a lover of iced vanilla lattes.Sure, I can drive into the heart of Summerville to grab a latte at Starbucks. Starbucks is taking over the world after all. But to experience a city that has an entire culture built around coffee? Well, that is something I would like to be a part of.

Ferry Boats
I have never ridden a ferry boat. I admit it. But I definitely would like to. It is one of the things that I find charming about Seattle. The Washington state ferry system is the largest in the United States. It is also the third largest in the world! The largest ferry boats carry over two thousand passengers. I have ridden a cruise ship in Charleston. But I don't think it compares to that.

I would say no until you at least visit first to see if it is how you imagine it to be.

Mountain *AND* Ocean Views
I currently live about 45 minutes away from the ocean and about three hours away from the mountains. I couldn't imagine being in an area where you have the best of both worlds. The views I have seen in the pictures of Seattle astound me. To have those views part of a daily experience, well, that has got to make people in Seattle happy. Here is a guide to some of Seattle's best viewpoints. Some of these make me want to pack up the family for a road trip right now!

My wife and I
just prefer Seattle. It's a beautiful city. Great setting. You open your front door in the morning and the air smells like pine and the sea, as opposed to bus exhaust.
