Most of these coupon code sites offer three items of description: description of the coupon, the coupon code itself, and expiration date. Now, although some coupon codes may have an expiration date, it is worth it to try to use it anyways. Some retailers may not have updated their system, and they may still allow coupon codes that have gone past their expiration date to be accepted. One note to keep in mind: for some discounts posted on these websites, you actually have to click through their link posted in order to get a discount.

We all hate getting junk email but if they offer you a discount, it's definitely worth it. Newsletters for merchants may send you exclusive discounts that you can only get by clicking through the email they send you. Their email may be customized so that the only way you can apply the coupon code is if you are the recipient of the email. Make sure you subscibe to get newsletters if you shop from a retailer often.

Search deal forums to see if anybody posts coupon codes that you can use. Because of the agreements coupon code websites that post coupon codes have with the retailers, sometimes they cannot post all coupon codes available. As the owner of a promotional code website I can attest to this. I am not allowed to post coupon codes for some merchants, because they strictly forbid me to put it. By looking in deal forums, you will be able to find coupon codes posted by ordinary people who are not bound by these agreements. If you cannot find a coupon code for the retailer you need, then write a post requesting it. Maybe someone will know one and post it for you.

If you have exhausted all options and still cannot find a coupon code even though there is a textbox for a coupon entry in the shopping cart, you can always call the merchants' customer support to see if they have any. You may be able to get their employee discount if you happen to call the right person. After all, the worst they can say is that they don't have any.
