What Are White Koi?

The pond can be a pretty dark and murky environment. Choosing a fish color that stands out will help you see what you are keeping. Varieties such as white koi carp are ideal because they contrast well against the muddy water or silty substrate.

The proper name for such fish in the Japanese naming standards is a white ogon. This means they are a single color all over with no deviation in shade.

Though people do keep smaller koi in aquariums they are better suited to an outdoor pond. Smaller white koi are easy for birds such as herons to spot so growing them up in a tank may be a good idea. If they are raised in ponds deeper water will at least offer some safe refuge. Bird nets may be required in shallower pond.

White Pet Koi In Aquarium

Phil & The Gang

My beloved platinum ogon koi named Phil, died, along with 4 other koi we had in our salon. Phil was the best dog ever (he didn't know he was a fish). He was always happy to see you, especially when it was time to eat. He was always "wagging" his tail in excitement. He enjoyed eating out of my hand, nibbling my fingers, eating, eating, eating and squishing Sideways Chuck into the bottom corner of their tank. Gonna miss the little bugger :( This video was taken in March before Chuck developed the Micheal Jackson disease (vitiligo) and turned from black to white.
