Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is becoming extremely popular. The process of tooth whitening can be carried out by a dentist - and this comes under the heading of cosmetic dentistry - or you can whiten your teeth yourself at home.

Certainly, for a professional teeth whitening solution, many people opt to see their dentist, but there are much less expensive options that do provide much the same results as professional teeth whitening.  These are the home teeth whitening kits.  Home teeth whitening varies considerably in quality from a simple toothpaste containing a little bleaching agent, to a whole system of actually surrounding the teeth with a bleaching solution (usually a gel-like substance) for a certain length of time, and repeating the process for several consecutive days (or weeks in some cases).

So how are you going to whiten your teeth?  Professional teeth whitening performed by your dentist, or a professional teeth whitening result that you can do for yourself at home at a fraction of the cost?

Teeth Whitening Systems

Europeans occasionally have a bad rap when it comes to white teeth. Here in America we bash their dental hygiene, so to speak. Austin Powers is a perfect example. If you're from the UK or Europe, we sometimes (very wrongly) assume you have disgusting brown and yellow teeth. Maybe you didn't even take the time to get braces as a child. Of course this is far from the actuality. Surely not everyone in England, France, or Germany have foul teeth. It's a stereotype. An incorrect stereotype at that - most English and European people do have lovely straight, white teeth.

On the other hand, it most likely relates back to the obsession we Americans have with our pearly whites. We take our oral hygiene very seriously here in the states. The example is set by our media. On any given day you can see a number of commercials for a teeth whitening system on television. There are plenty of these products to choose from.

It actually doesn't take much anymore to brighten your smile. It used to be that a trip to the dentist was the only way to acquire a white set of teeth. He/she would generally use some sort of tray with a peroxide gel in it. Well, not any more. These days you have plenty of options on your hands.

From the teeth whitening system you see advertised on a TV infomercial, to the countless whitening products you encounter in the local drugstore, the choice is yours. Go about getting that sparkling smile however you please.

For some people, money is not a major issue. If this is the case, then you may want to consider a professional whitening service. A dentist can easily apply a gel to your teeth and then whiten them with a laser. The procedure will cost you around 500 dollars. Or, you can easily pick up a teeth whitening system online. Rembrandt, Crest, and several other brand names offer inexpensive teeth whitening systems. Much less expensive than the professional route anyway.

There's always the basics. For those who are not interested in a modern-day teeth whitening system, you can always stick to routine brushing and flossing. You may not have ultra-white teeth as a result, but they may be sufficiently white for you.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Teeth have become an obsession here in the states. Chances are, if you live in America, you take pride in making your choppers straight and white. It has become a part of our culture. Notice the endless shelves of whitening toothpastes at the local drugstores. And don't forget about all those ads on television for professional-grade whitening kits. One way or another, you're going to get that pearly white smile. Then there's cosmetic dentistry for those who really have it rough. Were you given a raw deal with crooked eye teeth or broken K-9s? Hey, it's not really a concern anymore. As long as you have the cash, you can get that fixed-up in no time. It's all about veneers, porcelain caps, and Zoom whitening.

The next time you travel overseas, take a gander at the locals' teeth. I was in Taiwan 10 years back and saw plenty of dull, rough looking grins. Some were nothing short of atrocious. I couldn't believe why folks in other countries didn't take more pride in caring for their choppers. Heck, you only get one set. Why not resort to cosmetic dentistry if the problem was severe? Well, after do a little chatting with my buddy who came from Taiwan, he filled me in on a little secret. They don't really care. Yeah, you heard me right. Many other countries don't put the emphasis on cosmetic dentistry, braces, and whitening processes like we do. Here in America, we're apparently obsessed with having a stellar grin. I know that I am. That's why I brush three times a day and floss at night. Not only do I want to avoid getting cavities, but I want to make certain my teeth are clean and white. Don't you?

Let's face it; there's nothing wrong with having a little cosmetic dentistry done. I'm sure I would do it if I had to one day. Since we have the technology, we might as well take full advantage of it. All I know is when I meet someone; their smile makes a huge impact with me. Probably more so than any other physical characteristic. So all of you dentists, orthodontists, oral surgeons, and teeth specialists out there, keep up the good work. We want our smiles looking fabulous as long as we're around.

Tooth Whitening and Medical Insurance

If you're interested in whitening your teeth, no doubt you're interested in your health care generally, in which case medical insurance is probably a high priority for you.

Yes? Then I'm sure you wouldn't be averse to finding out the best value health insurance available?

So click below on the blue banner, and find out already!

Or for further information on the types of medical insurance available, you can get that at Medical Insurance Facts.

Whatever you do, make sure you have sufficient dental coverage. White teeth are fantastic, but if you can't afford the occasional filling or other dental work due to lack of appropriate medical insurance, you'll be in trouble!

Nice thorough lens. Very helpful, so I will return the favor with some personal experience. I have tried many different teeth whitening methods over the years and have had good luck with some teeth whitening trays. This method allowed me a bright white smile with very little sensitivity. thanks.

Good info on how to whiten teeth. I've been thinking about getting my teeth professionally whitened but maybe I'll try the home teeth whitening first.

With the products available today, it's a waste of time and money to spend $500.00 to $1000.00 at the dentist when you can achieve similar results in the comfort of your own home.I've gotten virtually the same results from using in-home products ($69.00)as my wife, who just spent $1000.00 at the dentist. Please take a look at my
    teeth whiten blog.
