PTSD-Post Tramatic Stress Disorder

I am a huge believe in Alternative Healing, and I believe this disorder can be cured or controlled by doing a lot of research on different alternative healing techniques.

What is PTSD-Post Tramatic Stress Disorder?

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD, is an anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to a terrifying event or ordeal in which physical harm has occurred.

Traumatic events that may trigger PTSD include violent personal assaults, natural or human-caused disasters, accidents, or military combat. It is also caused by both physical and mental abuse.

More about what PTSD is.....

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Posttraumatic stress disorder· Mental Health

Post traumatic stress disorder[1][2] (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to one or more terrifying events in which grave physical harm occurred or was threatened.[3] It is a severe and ongoing emotional reaction to an extreme psychological trauma.[4] This stressor may involve someone's actual death or a threat to the patient's or someone else's life, serious physical injury, or threat to physical and/or psychological integrity, to a degree that usual psychological defenses are incapable of coping. In some cases it can also be from profound psychological and emotional trauma, apart from any actual physical harm. Often, however, the two are combined.

PTSD is a condition distinct from traumatic stress, which is of less intensity and duration, and combat stress reaction, which is transitory. PTSD has also been recognized in the past as shell shock, traumatic war neurosis, or post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSS).

Herbs for PTSD

As I have been reading this morning about PTSD, I kept thinking about herbs that may aid in helping to take the edge off of the nervousness. I am not an expert, nor am I making any medicial claims, but I feel I must list a few herbs and oils that I have used to take the edge off of some of my own nervousness when stress is involved.

If you are thinking about trying an alternative method of healing be sure to talk to your regular doctor first especially if you are taking any kind of prescription drugs.

Using Herbs

Catnip-Insomnia, sedative, mild nerve stimulant

Chamomile-Relaxing, calming nerves, sleep

Gotu Kola-nervous conditions, depression

Kava-Kava-reduces stress-related anxiety

Lavender-Relaxant, nervousness

Lemon Balm-depression, migraines

PassionFlower-Nervousness and insomnia

Skullcap-Relaxant, nervous conditions, headaches

Valerian Root-Nerve disorders, sedative effect

Vetivert-Reduces stress, tension

You could use a few of these herbs and make a tea. As an example I would take:

2 teaspoons of Chamomile
2 teaspoons of Lemon Balm
1 teaspoon of Passionflower
1 teaspoon of Vetivert
1/2 teaspoon of Skullcap

Bring to a boil, 1-quart of distilled water. Pour over the herbs and cover container for 10-15 minutes. Strain out the herbs and pour yourself a cup, if you wanted too you can add a little honey or sugar. Just sit back, relax and joy. This can be drank hot or cold, I drink tea both ways

Using Oils

I use aromatherapy everyday. I believe in the scents of the oils and what they can do to help me relax. Here is a list of some oils for relaxing. I usually use a few drops of oils in tea lite candles.

Dissipate Fear

Frankincense
Chamomile
Ginger
Cypress
Sandalwood
Bergamot
Rose Maroc
Basil
Cinnamon
Cedarwood

Dissipate Guilt

Linden
Juniper
Jasmine
Clary Sage
Pine
Clove

Dissipate feelings of Unworthiness

Frankincense
Sandalwood
Neroli
Cedarwood
Ylang Ylang
Geranium

Scents to help relax the environment

Jasmine
Gardenia
Heliotrope
Lavender
Lemon Balm
Rosemary
Sandalwood
Vetivert
Wisteria

I always take a few different scents, mix them together with a base oil (almond or sunflower) and add about 4-5 drops of the mixture to per tea lite candle.

PTSD and ME

For me this is a very vulnerable post, but I also think it is an important one. Dealing with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) was another significant aspect of my recovery from abuse.

For many years, my PTSD went undiagnosed. I didn't understand the origins of many powerful and terrifying feelings. Even after diagnosis, I didn't know I was experiencing PTSD until after the symptoms went away. Learning to identify my feelings of terror and impending doom as PTSD - while I was experiencing them - helped my healing process tremendously.

During young adulthood, my PTSD episodes were extremely dramatic. They quite literally threw me back to the past - seeing before me people, places, and terrifying events from my childhood, rather than the innocuous event in the present. I remember one flashback where I instinctively leaped wildly over a porch railing, down a small embankment and landed with a thud in the soft dirt of the ground beneath.

These imaginary episodes were swift, violent, and ended as quickly as they started. They left me shaken and confused......

another great lens, and the links are good links, it's information that is needed. my recently ex girlfriend had PTSD and although i could understand some things there were many things i couldn't and i found that frustrating because all i wanted to do was help but didn't know how, i did some research myself but couldn't come across too much in the way of helping a partner of PTSD. 5*s

thank you for your comment on the i need your help lens, i appreciate that very much, and i will definitely be including the bad days as well. I hope it is something that becomes successful and hope to get the stories out to other depression communities as hopefully some may find it helpful to themselves

After trying to treat my anxiety and panic attacks for years with SSRIs and benzodiazepines, this finally works. I take 3 x 5 mg and started to experience a significant decrease in anxiety and compulsive thoughts, after only 4 days. So far I am happy with Buspirone. No side effects whatsoever.

Thank you for a wonderful lens, I have PTSD and Fibromyalgia, but I'm working through it... More people should be aware of the link between these two conditions and abuse... it is sadly far more common than people think. Great job!
