Whitetail Deer Hunting

Whether you are brand new to deer hunting or an old pro, there is always a new perspective. When you no longer get excited at the site of a deer or when you think you have mastered the sport, well then it is time to quit hunting. Personally, i love to read about deer hunting all year. I thought I would share a few resources that I use to learn more about whitetails.
Probably the most popular research resource is hunting magazines. Everybody and their brother subscribes to at least one deer hunting magazine. These publications typically recirculate the same topics every year but they can still provide new ideas and tactics.
I also enjoy reading deer hunting books. Authors like Greg Miller and Bruce Nelson are among some the more popular authors.
As the prices of broadband service become more affordable, the internet is turning into a very powerful tool for deer hunters. Here is a quick list of things that you should be looking for on the internet;
1- topo maps

4- weather trends
5- wind direction trends
6- soil testing
7- food plot seed suggestions
8- hunting gear reviews
9- hunting articles
10- buy hunting gear
etc....etc...etc...

Archery equipment is my weapon of choice when hunting deer. The up close and personal aspect of bow hunting is enough to give anyone a heart attack. Heading out during archery season will also extend your season your several weeks. There are some states that have an archery deer season that last over 2 months. These are two extra months that you could be out in the woods chasing a trophy animal. So save up a little money and start searching for a cheap compound bow to get you started. I totally believe that a new bow is not needed and you can find some great deals on some used compound bows.

#* UPDATE- I just received word that this buck was harvested during gun season. Apparently that hunter did not believe in letting smaller bucks pass.
This is a photo of a small buck. I know this is not very impressive. The impressive part is that I built the camera that took the picture.
