Who is LuckyRatFengShui.com? Where are they based? Are they a small business? What kind of products do they sell? Do feng shui products really work?

LuckyRatFengShui.com is a small-business Asian gifts and feng shui supplies website based in Collinsville, Illinois, and run by Penrod Venture Marketing, a small husband and wife company. The couple's particular interests lie in health and wellness of the mind, body and surroundings, and feng shui products fit right into their values.

In addition to a growing number of Asian gifts, the LuckyRatFengShui.com website sells feng shui products to help in 9 areas of life: fame/reputation, relationships/love, children/creativity, helpful people/travel, career/life path, wisdom/knowledge, ancestors/family, wealth/abundance, and health.

Furthermore, Shandi, the LuckyRatFengShui.com sales manager, uses sites such as Squidoo and EzineArticles to teach others some of the basic tenants of feng shui--including clarifying whether or not and how feng shui products "work."

What is Feng Shui?

Practitioners of feng shui believe that a powerful form of energy (called chi) moves around and within every space and thing. How this energy moves about your space--fast and forceful, gentle and steady, or stagnant--affects your well-being.

In other words, your environment affects you--your health, your mood, and even your effectiveness. You probably already know this is true.

  • Do you like things neat and tidy or shelves, nooks, and crannies haphazardly filled to their brims? If you like things neat and tidy, how does a messy, dirty room make you feel, especially when you're trying to get business done?

  • Have you ever smelled something that make you feel nauseous or sickly? Smells are part of our environment, too, and can have a significant impact on our mood and health.

  • Scientists also agree your environment affects your body. If you've ever studied color psychology you know some colors, such as green, produce a sense of calm in the brain while bright colors, especially orange, inspire people to action. In fact, green's calming ability is where the "Green Room" of television and recording studios got its name; the walls were literally green!

However, we can influence the movement of chi and its affects just like we can influence the traffic of guests through our home.

The intentional placement of objects, colors, and other aspects of the environment to influence the movement of chi and to attract harmony and prosperity is what we call the ancient art of feng shui. A feng shui bagua map, a compass, or both are used to dechipher which areas of a home or space are most auspicious for different areas of life. Then objects colors, fragrances, and the like are placed and removed to produce certain effects, such as increasing work productivity or enhancing certain life aspirations. Download a free, printable bagua and then learn more about using a bagua.

How Do Feng Shui Items Work? DO They Even Work?

One day a woman who was having much trouble with her finances read online that to prevent flushing her money away she should put a bowl of popcorn above her toilet. She did, but nothing changed. What went wrong?

Some people assume feng shui products work like "magic" and that by adding an object (and doing nothing else) like the popcorn above the problem should be cured. That's not how feng shui works, and with this mindset it's no wonder some call feng shui and feng shui items a "scam." With no education of feng shui from credible sources you cannot expect to get results from any sort of feng shui practice, especially physical symbols.

In order for feng shui principles to affect your life you must integrate the principles into all areas of your life, especially into your attitude. If you have and project the right energy then you will attract what you desire. Objects can help attract this desire but does not do it by itself. Think of a feng shui item such as a statue like you would think of a red string tied around your finger; the string acts as a reminder each time you see it that you need to do something. In the same way, a statue of Buddha may be a reminder to relax or focus. It's all about intention.

In other words, feng shui supplies may help you attract chi, but they won't do it without the intention behind it and, likely, other changes to your environment.
