Who is Deanna Mascle

Ranked #2,871 in Squidoo Community, #219,483 overall

I'm not really sure what to put here

Choosing one label for myself is extremely daunting. You see, I have a bit of an identity crisis. That is why I have 15 lenses labeled "about me" on Squidoo. Is there a 12-step program for that?

Whenever anyone asks me about myself I really have to think. It is not that I don't know myself -- I do -- but I am a lot of things. So which "label" do I use when I describe myself to others? Who do I want to be at any particular moment? Why do I have to choose?

I am a small town girl, a wife and a mother, a teacher and a student, a writer, a professional, an animal lover, a reader, a trivia fan, a business owner, and a gardener.

Let's see how many identities I have missed...I can already see some more "about me" lenses I need to create. Apparently I really have a problem...

This lens is about Deanna Mascle the person

If you want to know more about Deanna Mascle the professional check out Rhetorician Deanna Mascle and if you want to know more about Deanna Mascle the Squidoo Lensmaster then you should check out her Squidoo alias Rwoman.

Note: I told you I have an identity problem!

Do I have an identity crisis?

Yes, but that's OK

squidoopets says:

Only if you can't choose between them -:)

Alfiesgirl says:

I don't have a problem with myself...I love, hate, enjoiy, tolerate, ignore, bore, excite, thrill, wonder...and more importantly...laugh, at myself & the many, many sides of my personality with absolutely no problem at all, hehe...x

No, you are normal

karmicchristian says:

It is normal to have an identity crisis. :)

Small town girl

I grew up in the small town of Williamson, New York and our family vacation spot was another small town of sorts. As I married a small town boy it shouldn't be surprising that even when we moved away from our hometown we settled in the small town of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky

Wife and Mother

My husband and I have been married for 20 years but apparently I never felt moved to create a Squidoo lens for him. That is not because I don't care or think he is interesting, it is because I know he would absolutely hate it...

However, our son Noah has been the subject and co-creator of a number of lenses (hence the need for his own lensography) and even though we have only had our dog Max for a year he's got his own set of lenses too!

I really love being a mom to both of my boys.

Teacher and Student

I am a writing teacher and I also teach other teachers of writing through my work for the National Writing Project.

I am also a student. I believe strongly in the importance of lifelong learning, but I have also spent most of my life in the classroom as a student. In addition to the traditional K-12 education I have earned a BA in English, MS in Secondary Education, and MA in English. I am currently working on my Ph.D. and completing that degree (and my formal education!) is one of my goals for 2011!

Writer

I have been a professional writer for my entire adult life. I have written and edited newspapers, magazines, online publications, and books (see my three historical romances below). Even though today my primary professional identity is focused on teaching and researching writing I still fill my need to write with my blog and Squidoo!

Professional

Professionally I consider myself a rhetorician as I do more than teach writing. Rhetoric is the art, practice, and study of [all] human communication.
Loading

Animal lover

I dearly love my dog Max and have created lenses for and about him as well as other pet-related subjects. Plus, as a trivia fanatic I have created a number of animal trivia quizzes.

Reader

That is such a tame word for what I am...I am a bookaholic. There are books in every room of the house. Books on shelves, tables, footstools, and on the floor and in boxes...I cannot even begin to count how many books I own or that my son owns.

I have always loved books and I have passed that love on to my son. We have lots of lenses about books and more we want to do...

I always have a book to read and get quite nervous if my pile of reading material drops down too low (despite the piles of books all over my house). I know, I have a problem.

Trivia fan

I love trivia. I think it is fun and it makes me feel smart. Perhaps my love of trivia is a natural off-shoot of being a lifelong learner and avid reader but whatever the reason I love trivia.

When I transitioned professionally from working as a journalist into teaching writing I developed an online publication business that included four trivia e-zines. I had so much fun with that I was really sorry to let it go but I still share some of the quizzes I wrote then on Squidoo so I have not let it go.

In fact, I have lots of trivia lenses on Squidoo.

Business owner

I was a freelance writer before I was a professional journalist and I continued to freelance even while working full-time for various publications (journalism doesn't pay well). However, when I transitioned from a working journalist to an academic I knew that I would miss writing. Fortunately for me this was at a time when internet publications were just beginning to take off and I was able to create a number of online publications focused on my interests.

When I entered my Ph.D. program I retired all my online publications. I thought that meant I had also retired my online business but recently I realized that since I have continued to write and develop on Squidoo I am still an online business owner. Yeah!

Gardener

This is my saddest entry.

Ever since my husband and I became homeowners (20 years ago) I have gardened. I love my gardens, but my hideous schedule for the past three years has meant that my gardens have been terribly neglected. My mother has tried to help but since she lives in another state she no sooner gets them whipped into shape then she leaves and I neglect them and the whole vicious cycle begins again.

I hope that this spring will be the turning point for my gardens as I complete my Ph.D. and can at last reclaim my life.

Can you help me?

I need to put something in the title of this lens but I don't know what identity to pick. Do you? Vote for your favorite and help me out with a suggestion for my lens title!
