How Do They Make Tea?

Well, it depends on what you are talking about. The process is mostly the same so here I'll discuss about the general process the leaves go through.

Generally speaking, tea is basically made from leaves of a plant called Camellia Sinensis. This plant is native to southeast Asia. The leaves of this plant is then picked and either dried (make green tea) or fermented (make black tea).

Depending on the taste they want to achieve with the end product, tea leaves are allowed to age accordingly. The age therefore determines the taste.

They are then often sorted by sizes and packed in foil lined chests to prevent loss of aroma.

The Different Types Of Tea

I Discuss In This Lens

  1. Black Tea. Despite being the un-healthiest of all tea, it is the most consumed. It has the highest amount of caffeine and lowest amount of antioxidants.
  2. White Tea. This kind of tea can be more expensive than other types of tea because it's produces mostly in lesser quantities. White teas are made from new growth buds, shielded from sunlight and therefore had no chlorophyll. Not well known outside China.
  3. Green tea is by far the healthiest of all tea. It's tea leaves basically come from the same plant as black tea leaves. The difference in them is that green tea leaves undergo no fermentation an therefore retains more of its properties than their black counterpart. It has lower caffeine level and higher antioxidants level and has been consumed in China for well over 4000 years.
  4. Oolong Tea. Oolong is not as beneficial as green tea but better than black ones. They are the most difficult to process..
  5. Herbal Tea. They shouldn't even be called tea. These "teas" infusion of herbs/dried flowers.
