Why I Will Not Make New Years Resolutions For 2011
Ranked #4,219 in Squidoo Community, #295,486 overall
Why make a resolution that I'm going to fail at anyways?
It may sound strange and out there, but I will not be making resolutions for the new year in 2011 or ever again.
Instead, I have some goals I'd like to achieve in 2011 and I have some habits that I'll be changing over the course of the year, but I will only be working on changing one habit at a time. It is said that it takes 20 days to develop a good habit, so once I'm done with one, I'll move on to the next.
Knowing I started my year with a big giant list and then ending with one or two checked off is ok for me and I have found that's what works for me. Will it work for you? I don't know.

Business Goals for 2011

I think my personal goals for 2011 are reasonable and achievable and I have had to make sure I do the same with my business goals. If you are on a lot of email lists, you know you are bombarded with tons of email offers daily about making $1,000's a month. It's not doable for most people and that's what's so difficult about the affiliate marketing industry.
1. Clear $500 per month from affiliate marketing by July - Of course, when I start to make this much I can use it to work on one of my personal goals of paying down my debt. My intent is to use half of what I'm making to reinvest in my online business and the other half to pay down my debt.
2. Get rid of almost all of my inventory - I used to sell a lot on eBay and a lot of the inventory I have is part of the debt my husband and I are carrying right now. This money all goes towards paying down that debt and getting rid of the inventory will definitely help us find our way to our financial goals.
That's it, if I set too many goals, I won't achieve any of them; I know, I've seen it happen.
Business habits to change for 2011
1. Build up one web property a day. It doesn't matter if it's a blog post, new Hub, or new Squidoo lens, i will be writing and posting one new thing a day. I've already started to work on this habit and I think I've missed one day so far. It's a pretty good start.
2. List 5 pieces of inventory a week. I sell on both eBay and Amazon and between the two I usually choose the one that will get me the best price. I was originally going to say 5 pieces of inventory a day, but I've tried this; it's too overwhelming for me. Instead, 5 a week is one piece of inventory a work day. This is a very reasonable goal.

3. Build 5 new links a week. This may seem a little daunting to me because I have so many web pages already with not a lot of links. It could get a little overwhelming. The main thing I will remember is just to start at the top, if I take all of my lenses and just start at the top I think this is pretty reasonable. By the end of the year, I should have a lot more traffic coming to my web properties.
4. Participate in communities more often. When I work alone I become an island and disconnected from the communities that I belong to. Instead, I will start to visit forums and participate a little more often. This should also help me achieve my links goal if I am visiting forums. The dangerous part here is forums and communities and be a time sink; since they are fun we tend to do this first instead of last in our day.

As long as they are achievable resolutions, they are worth it, but why wait for new year to make them? I think if you do everything little by little, anything in achievable!

Personal Goals for 2011
1. Keep my kitchen clean - My kitchen has a tendency to turn into a train wreck in way too little time. When my kitchen is dirty, I find that I am unable to concentrate on my online business.
2. Stay caught up with my laundry - I have the same problem with laundry as I do with the kitchen. Once it gets out of control, I'm done and I can't get a thing done.
3. Lose 25 more pounds - In 2010 I lost 33 pounds by only changing a couple of small habits which I have been able to keep, I have some more small habits that I will cover which should help me get to my next goal.
4. Get to a comfortable level with my debt - I made a lot of strides towards catching up in 2010, but I still have what seems like a mountain to climb in 2011. You can read how I will be taking care of my debt at best way to pay down debt.

Habits I'll be changing to reach my personal goals
Keep in mind that I will only be working on one habit at a time. This is a lot to chew all at once and I can tell you that trying to take care of this all at once would lead to failure for me. I know, I've tried it.
1. Go to the gym 3 times a week. My husband and I just recently signed up for a Planet Fitness membership and I think I can count on 2 hands how many times I've been there. This ties into my personal goal number 3 of losing another 25 pounds.

2. Take care of laundry one load at a time. This one is a little more difficult to do because it's a habit that you cannot do every day unless you have that much laundry. Since my husband and I do not share in the laundry duties, I will have to work at this one a little more.
3. Do the dishes nightly - We tend to let the dishes pile up until they are unmanageable, then our mind just turns off and rebels against doing the dishes. This one could be combined with my laundry goals. On the night I don't have a load of laundry to do, I could do the dishes. I would still be washing them a lot more often then I was before.
4. Drink a glass of water every morning - If you drink a glass of water before you put anything else into your body, your metabolism will go up for the day. I've tried this one before and for some reason, it's difficult to choke down 8 ounces of water right away in the morning, but I will try again.

- I think you've done excellent. Very achievable goals, so you should be happy when they are done. Sometimes day by day, sometimes week by week. That's great :)

- I think you have some fantastic goals here, well done. Bite size goals are the way to go! I have the same with the dishes, I have told myself that I can not do anything on my business unless a load of washing is in the washing machine in the morning and the house is clean. This motivates me to get it done real quickly so I can get started. Keep up the great work :)
