Why Learn to Speak Spanish?

If you live anywhere in the United States of America, I would suggest that you begin to get the basics of the Spanish language. The Mexican-American population in the US is growing at an exponential rate, and even though English will probably always be the official language, it definitely would not hurt to at least get some basic conversation under our belt. I currently live in Texas, and I do work in the restaurant industry. It is very important for me to have some basic knowledge, and I learn more every day. Not only do I find it fun and interesting to learn a new language, I know that it will benefit me more and more for the rest of my life. This may just be my opinion, but I think that many of the Hispanics that reside in the US do try very hard to learn how to speak English. It makes a world of difference if you work with them to try to learn their language while they try to learn ours. My philosophy is to always treat others with the same respect that I expect to receive in return. Even if you have trouble with Spanish, if you try to speak it, you will gain a lot of respect.
