45 Wii Games Your Kids Will Love!

The Nintendo Wii is ideal for families, because the controls are so easy to use, and everyone can play together. There are a selection of games aimed at families, which are great fun for all ages.

Some of the best children's games available on the market today include Super Mario Galaxy, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, and Super Paper Mario.

Here's a list of Wii Games for Kids, ordered so that games suitable for younger children are first. A lot of the games on this list are amazing and are fun for adults too! I tried to include games from lots of different genres and for boys and girls. I hope your family enjoys these!

Wii Games for Preschool Children

Toddlers and Kids under 5

Finding a suitable Wii game for a preschool child can be tricky, as many of them require some reading, but there are a few that specifically cater this age group. Many games just need a parent to set them up, and once they're ready to play, the child can play mostly without reading. Racing games and other kid-oriented games like the Barbie and Disney titles will generally work well, plus Wii Sports and parts of Wii Play.

Go Diego Go: Safari Rescue

Great for preschoolers. They will need some help navigating through menus and when something new appears on the screen, but this is one game they should be able to play mostly by themselves. Grown-ups can join in using the Dinosaur Guide Helper Feature on a second controller.

Animal Crossing: City Folk

You live in a town and earn money to upgrade your house and items. You also talk to your animal neighbors. Lots of customization. Simple but addictive and fun. If you've already played the GameCube or DS version, you might not want to get this, as it is very similar. If you enjoyed this, try out Rune Factory.

Crayola Colorful Journey

Although the DS version is great for really young kids, this version is better for kids 7+, since it is more of a platformer where you color at the same time.

Mario Wii Games - Great for All Kids

For children of any age!

Mario has appeared in over two hundred video games since he was created way back in 1981 and has since, taken on the role of Nintendo's mascot and has been a huge selling point together with lots of top selling merchandise. He is of course part of the hugely successful Nintendo Wii currently taking the world by storm.

Super Paper Mario

Like RPGs and/or Mario? A great introduction to the Role Playing Genre (RPG). Good for all ages.

Mario Kart Wii with Wii Wheel

Just pure fun. Great racing game for playing with friends and family. And the best part is the game is very forgiving. If players fall off the cliff, it brings them back on the track - for as many times as you fall- which is great!

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games

Mario & Sonic Olympic is the perfect mix. The mini games are reasonable length, and tons of different characters with truely different skills. With the amount of different events, unlockables, it'll keep you busy until the christmas gatherings when the big party begans and everyone can huddle around and start your own family Olympics!

Mario Party 8

A board game for up to 4 players. My kids 8,6,and 4 love playing this. You jump up, hit the dice, move those # of spaces. You can get candy for super powers (bowl over other players, steal candy/coins, zap their coins, jump to their spot) and at the end of each round- minigames to play. You also try to get the most stars (20 coins each or free if you are lucky!) Mom/Dad love playing too!

Wii Games for School Children

When children get a bit older, they're able to read the on-screen instructions, and figure out the controls for a game without any parental help. Here are some games that are popular with kids of this age group, and are a lot of fun.

DeBlob

One of the more unique offerings on the Wii. Has fun single and multiplayer. If you like platformers and/or Mario Galaxy, you should check this out.

Boom Blox Bash Party

This game is just as entertaining and as fun as the 1st one. The new slingshot and virus ball are a great addition. I would recommend playing this game as cooperative - great way to work together.

Rayman Raving Rabbids

Hilarious gameplay with funny rabbit creatures. Has lots of mini games. Fun alone or with a friend. If you want to laugh, try this out. A great game for families. Most people consider this one the best in the series.

Monster Lab

My daughter (age 6) and I both love this game for its ease of play while maintaining a deceptively deep strategy element. It's a wonderfully realized game graphically too. Elements of scariness without being too scary and a great sense of humor make this game my prized possession for the Wii in our household.

LEGO Games for the Wii

An awesome game for families. Two people can play together through the story. Very easy to pick up and play. Cute Lego characters and funny moments. If you like Star Wars, Legos, or just want something you can play with a younger child, this is a great one. If you like this, check out the LEGO Batman and Indiana Jones games.

More Great Wii Games for Children

Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon

A very cute role playing game (RPG). Suitable for those that have never played a role playing game before, as well as children. Quite fun! Check out Super Paper Mario if you like this, or Rune Factory.

Rune Factory: Frontier

Who knew that farming could be fun? This is based on the popular Harvest Moon series but in a fantasy universe. Run a farm, raise creatures, fight in dungeons, and even get married and make friends in town. This game has it all. If you play this you WILL be addicted for quite a while.

Zack & Wiki Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure

A fun, quirky game for everyone. Zack and Wiki is hard to find sometimes, but buy it used and you won't regret it! Challenging puzzles for all ages with cute characters. This is single player but if you hook up more remotes people can point out objects on the screen and everyone can solve the puzzles together. You'll use your brain a lot playing this one. One of my favorites.

Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree

A game that actually requires serious thinking.

This rethinking of the popular Nintendo DS game will test players brains with fun problems and allow people of any age to play together. The Wii Remote controller's hands-on control makes playing a cinch. Multiplayer versus and co-op play modes also have been added, allowing players to use the title as a brain-training exercise or a raucous party game.

Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree

Amazon Price: $19.96 (as of 12/28/2009)Buy Now

Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree does a great job at bringing gamers young and old together in a game that works well, and expanding the online gaming action that the Wii has just started seeing. It is definitely a must buy for anyone who loves a mental challenge that is different from action games that are more about looks than fun.

Fun Wii Games for Kids

New Play Control! Pikmin

A GameCube classic but updated for the Wii with motion controls. This is a strategy game with adorable Ant-like creatures that help you find the pieces to your ship while battling large bug-like monsters. Sounds weird, but even my mother loves this one.

Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz

If you want unique, addictive, yet simple gameplay, try this out. The goal is to get the ball to the end of the course, but there are lots of obstacles and it is pretty easy to fall off! Think of those games with marbles where you try to get them through a hole.

Disney's Chicken Little: Ace in Action

My boys 6 and 7 love this game... They have been playing it since they received it. They can't wait till the next day in order to play again. They have not found it too difficult and the even asked if there was a Ace in Action movie. They love it and their little sister loves to see them play.

MySims for Nintendo Wii

The Wii version of MySims is different from the other 'Sims' games and begins with a character moving into a run-down town with a mayor desperate to bring residents back. The player's job is to attract business and townies back into town.

Cute Wii Games That Kids Will Love

Here are a few Wii games that are have cute characters and are fun to play:

Wii Games for Older Children

Here are some more serious games, some based on recent movies. These will be great for older kids who like to get into story based games.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

If you like Harry Potter pick up Half Blood Prince or Order of the Phoenix (harder to find new but you can buy it used for less). Fun motion controls make you feel like you are actually using a wand. A huge explorable Hogwarts. Fun for all ages and a great introduction to the adventure genre.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

This is one of my favorite games. This is rated "Teen," but it is not that violent. There is no blood, but the main character does have a sword and bow and arrow. When enemies die, they disappear in a cloud of smoke. Smaller kids may be frightened by some of the monsters and darker atmosphere, but my 5 and 7 year old cousins had no problem.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game

As a parent, I found the Wii version of this game to be both kid friendly and parent friendly. The game is not too hard for the youngsters to understand or too easy as to become boring. The graphics were just right for families and the levels and different types of ghosts to battle made it both interesting and fun for everyone.

Nancy Drew: The White Wolf of Icicle Creek

A solid adventure title, with puzzles varying in difficulty from easy to hard. It's a great game for our whole family to play and try to solve together. There are a few action-oriented mini-games (cooking, jumping across icebergs, etc) that the kids love, so there's a bit of something for everyone.
