Video Game Console Review: The Nintendo Wii Scream Said It All

Ranked #4,323 in Games, #195,268 overall

I Scream, You Scream, Remember the Wii Scream?

Did you do the Wii scream when you received your Wii? Was the mighty Wii video game console really worthy of a Wii Scream? Is this how you would react to receiving the Wii console when it was brand new and oh so exciting?

It was more than just a bit exciting to receive a Wii video game console and some of the necessary video games and video game accessories for many individuals. But was it enough to cause you to scream? It certainly was for the recipients of the Wii video game consoles on this page!

One reaction became a YouTube video hit and, as of February 12th, 2009, had more than 395,196 people visit, 487 comment and 662 leave star ratings. Yes, you will find J.P. Pellegrino's world-famous Wii Scream video on this page.

My teenage boys received a Wii and some of the best Wii video games this year for Christmas from Santa. At 17 and 15 years of age, their reaction was slightly more mature. They had the contents of the package figured out before they started to unwrap it. There was no scream but the smiles were definitely ear-to-ear and the pleasure plain to see.

What is it about the Wii and the Wii Scream? Why were people around the world so enthralled with this video game console and with these videos? On this page, I have featured only a few of the many, many YouTube videos available on this theme. I hope you enjoy them.

The Story of Canada's Pellegrino Family and Their Wii Experience

The scream of jubilation continues to be heard around the world! J.P. Pellegrino enjoys his 15 minutes of YouTube Video fame.

Probably no one expected quite this reaction from the recipient of a Nintendo Wii. J.P., Sara and Simon Pellegrino of Grimsby, Ontario, Canada are famous because of J.P.'s Wii Scream. Their video, filmed by Mom and put on YouTube by Simon, has been seen and heard on more than 281,000 computers around the world. Both Fox News and ABC have used the clip and apparently, the story has been carried around the world in newspapers. They have, unexpectedly, become one of the latest in a string of YouTube sensations.

The video features J.P. opening the Wii and J.P.'s reaction is what all the fuss is about. Watch his eyes first and then cover your ears when he lets out his high-pitched scream of delight followed by a dance and a collapse with the Wii held securely in his arms.

Sara says that the video shows J.P. pretty much as he is and that he "gets excited over t-shirts. He's pretty easy to please. Knowing his character, I can tell you it was a genuine response."

Mom, Samantha, says the attention has been mostly positive and she is happy their video has entertained people around the world. I wonder about J.P.'s reaction to the top video games.

When I first created this page, the Nintendo Wii retailed for more than $400. Now, it is available at much less than that from Amazon. When last I checked it was at just $253 for a brand-new, factory-sealed Nintendo Wii video game console.

Have You Ever Seen Anything Like It? Another Wii Scream!

I have not, but I can understand and sympathize with the poor boy, he screams, cries and eventually has to leave the room. If you watch only one video on this page, make it this one.

Poor guy! I hope he is enjoying his Wii video games!

The Wii is fantastic and receiving one is very exciting. I can certainly understand the Wii Scream reaction of people receiving one!

Susan52 says:

I'd scream if Santa brought me a Wii! I think it's great fun! (I've played one and it's a blast - and I bet they're still playing with it for sure!)

Joan4 says:

Oh yes, if I had received the Wii as a child, I would have screamed for sure! We love to play games with our grandchildren on the Wii!

This is ridiculous. It is only a video game console! The Wii Scream is the most absurd thing I have ever heard!

spirituality says:

I just have to wonder: are they still playing with it a month later?

Hi, Wii Scream kids mom here...just an update, it's 3 Christmas's later and Wii still love our Wii. JP is a great 12 year old kid, loving life, playing games but doing life too. He's a drummer, snowboarder and skier and skateboarder in real life. He plays real life soccer and swims like a fish. He's a smart inventor and lover of all things paintball. He's a well rounded kid who loves life and yep, that scream was the real deal. He is just like that, a kid who loves living. And to all the haters, well, he's just a kid, try and remember what it was like to be one. And he does have a chemistry set and is quite good with a sword...a wii sword that is. Regards, Samantha

I was amazed at how much I enjoyed Wii bowling at my son's house. I'd love to have one! (I don't know if son and DIL screamed or not. Guess I'll have to ask!)
