Wii is a popular video game console manufactured by Nintendo Co. Ltd. The Wii console introduced in 2006 and won several awards. Nintendo Wii console is considered the seventh generation in video game consoles. Wii primarily competes with strong consoles like Xbox and PlayStation 3. Let's ask ourselves, how Wii stood out of the crowd and became the best seller across the globe.

Nintendo Wii put a brilliant target plan to overwhelm competition. Their plan was simply balance between Wii capabilities, price, efficiency and fun to produce maximum fun with the right price. Wii is normally sells for around $250, while the other consoles costs more.

The name however has become very controversial and even ironic. The word Wii pronounced we become a joke because it refers to American slang for urination. Many jokes, articles and press reacted negatively towards the word, but Nintendo did not change the name and they were right.
The word Wii pronounced easily and it reflects the main feature of the Wii game console which is group gamming. Group gamming with friends or family will strengthen their relationship together and that made Wii very popular between families and friends.

The other main feature is wireless controllers. The wireless controllers made players to move freely anywhere they like. Moreover they can swing their remotes to swing a sword or tennis racket or bowling ball and that will make players move their bodies and be more interactive and even healthier because they move their bodies.

It is remarkable that Wii came from nowhere and competed with well promoted gaming consoles like PS3 and Xbox and won the competition. In first half of 2007 Nintendo Wii sold units more than PS3 and Xbox combined. Even when Nintendo Co. produces 1.8 million units every month, there are shortages everywhere because the demand is so outpaced.

The Nintendo Co. played it smart and targeted large demographic users such as urban apartment residents, ranchers, grandparents, and parents with their children. From the first day Nintendo planed to increase the number of new people playing their console, they didn't thought of competing Sony or Microsoft.

Nintendo tried to balance the factors of movie playing, price, fun, game library, graphics and their magic wand (Wii Remote) to reach their limits with the affordable price as prier priority. So they eliminate movie playback, lower graphics and physics, raise fun and game library, and lead to the creation of their magic wand with affordable price of $250.

So there are features and set downs of Nintendo Wii console. Here are the main features and set downs:-

Wii is perfect for group gaming for large portion of people specially families and friends. Wii strengthen their relationships.

Wii console costs about $250 while other consoles cost more.

Wii is very powerful in game library with lots of categories like action, role playing, strategies, arcade and much more with 2D and 3D gaming.

Wii is excellent in connectivity and network gaming for free. It has local wireless multiplayer on different television sets enabled and other features like web browsing, weather, internet and news channels and much others.

You can play all official GameCube games on Wii console.

Wii is healthy and more interactive because of the breakthrough Wii remote. You can swing your controllers to swing swords, rackets, through balls so you are moving your whole body not just fingers.

Other features like plugging external HDD, USB, keyboard and much more using expansion ports.

Wii also has few set downs, some of them can be fixed by softmodding (software modification) and some can't.

The Wii can't playback movies and MP3 but this can be fixed by softmodding Wii and install the right homebrew.

The Wii can't play non Nintendo games but also by installing right homebrew you can play classic and games from other companies easily.

The graphics however is not in HD like modern consoles but it is very good.

The batteries of the controllers need frequent charging.
