Shooter style action and role-playing games are always popular no matter what gaming system you are using. With the wii, however, you have a choice between using a regular controller or one of the wii light gun controllers that make game play more enjoyable.

The most common shooter-style controller is the Wii Zapper. This is a controller accessory that allows you to put both the wiimote and the nunchuk controller into one gun-style holder The advantage of using the zapper is that it allows for steadier hands when playing games that require constant use of a gun or bow.

An excellent alternative to the Zapper is the Wii Perfect Shot Gun. This controller accessory is made by Nyko and the general consensus amongst users is that this light gun shell sets the standard by which all others should be measured.

Where the Zapper requires two hands to shoot with, the Perfect Shot Gun can be used one-handed, making for easier game play. It's set up so that pressing on the trigger activates the B button on the wiimote, also making for a more realistic firing action. There is also an option for plugging in the nunchuck when it's needed.

Fans of rifle-style shooting and hunting games will also like the realistic action of the Wii SureShot Rifle It's designed to keep the wii remote and nunchuk in one holder, and comes with a removable stock and barrel for playing in rifle, sawed-off rifle, and blaster modes. The main complaint about it is that it's a bit tricky to actually get the nunchuk inserted into the holder.

Two of the most popular games around are Guitar Hero and Rock Band, in all their various versions. And with the latest release of The Beatles: Rock Band , guitar controllers, drum sets and cymbals are sure to be on the top of many wish lists.

There are many different styles of guitar controllers available, but you will need to make sure you are getting the right one for your game as they are not interchangeable between games.

For Guitar Hero fans, the Les Paul Wireless Guitar is generally accepted to be the best. The fact that it's wireless frees up a lot of worry as you bounce around like a true rock star without having to think about cords and tripping over them. The Guitar Hero set features three drum pads, two raised cymbals and a non-slip moveable kick pedal all designed to provide an authentic drummer experience. They even include the drum sticks!

The Rock Star set features four drum heads, but the cymbals are sold separately as an expansion pack.

For parents who like their peace and quiet, thankfully there are also silencer pads available for the drums. My son is a drummer, and believe me practice pads and silencers are well worth the small price tag to save your sanity. :)
