Wii News - From a Non-Gamer's Perspective
Enter the Nintendo Wii!
I was intrigued with the system and how different it was. The most striking feature - the distinct lack of millions of buttons!
So now I am exploring the Wii system and learning how to change my thinking when it come to gaming.
This lens will discuss all things Wii and I welcome any input - from gamers and non-gamers alike!
Holli B's Daily Wii Thought
In Control
I was speaking with my gamer brother about the Wii remote and how a newbie would be less intimidated by the Wii remote than the XBox remote or the PS3 remote. As someone who is new to this whole gaming thing (even though I grew up with gaming systems starting from the Odyssey 2 and Atari 2600), it was my brother who was into the games, not me. And now, at the ripe old age of 37, I decided I was ready to give this gaming thing a try.
So what made me go for the Nintendo Wii instead of any other system? The remote didn't scare the bejesus out of me.
People who have been gaming for a few years (or who made the eventual progression from 1-button to 2-buttons to 4-buttons and up) don't realize the learning curve involved or how intimidating it can be to be faced with a multi-button controller. The thought of all the possible combinations is daunting, so turning to the more user-friendly Wii remote was a no-brainer.
Does that mean I'm never going to get another system? No. I'm contemplating another system - once I get over the fear of all of those buttons. Maybe I can graduate to a Dreamcast or Saturn controller after that. (Not that there would be a console to go with it...)
