Wii For Seniors

The Nintendo Wii
was originally designed as a way for 'gamers' to play virtual sports and games. What a surprise to find some of the most avid 'gamers' playing Wii sports games are, senior citizens.
Using a motion-sensitive controller, that does require that people get up and move in order to play the game, Wii has gotten some of the sedentary seniors out of their chairs and on to their feet.
Seniors can play any one of the games that are included in the Wii Sports. A favorite for all age groups is, bowling. Other games included in the Wii Sports game package include golf, tennis, baseball and boxing.

Wii Bowling

There are all kinds of tips and how-to's on the internet to improve your Wii Bowling scores. Hints on how to throw strikes, spares and even pick up splits. There's a bit of a trick to knowing how to operate the Wii-mote, where to throw and when to release the ball. It's much more fun to figure it out for yourself, especially in a group setting.

Wii Golf

Wii Golf is a lot of fun to play. Before you get started though, play a practice round or two and get familiar with how it's done on Wii.
A few things to know, before you get started:

Know your Clubs
You'll have several clubs to choose from; driver, iron, wedge and putter. The game selects the one it thinks is best for you, but sometimes I like to try a different club, just for fun.

Know the Power Bar
The power bar on the lower left part of the screen and the blue dotted line on the map view are basically the same thing. As you determine how hard you want to swing the club, keep an eye on the map view and be mindful that the ball will bounce on impact!

Know the Wind Gauge
Before you aim your swing, check the wind gauge. If the wind is strong and blowing from a side direction, aim the ball towards the wind so that the wind will push the ball back on course. You don't have to worry about the wind when putting since the ball will not be airborne.

Wii Sports is for the Whole Family

Wii Sports is bundled with the Wii game console and introduces a fun new way to play your favorite games.

You can play Tennis, Baseball, Golf, Bowling and Boxing in the comfort of your own living room or family room. And the best part, you don't have to chase any balls, dodge any gloves or wear yourself out running back and forth on a tennis court. Simply use the Wii Remote controller to imitate the actions of swinging a tennis racket, baseball bat or golf club, throwing a bowling ball down an alley or throwing a glove to your opponent's chin.

Players can personalize and use their own Mii caricatures and use them to play against their friends' Miis for a more personal experience. And, as each player improve in each game, their Mii skill levels will increase.

A new Wii Sports game coming in July 2009 is the Wii Sports Resort. Order yours now, so you can get yours when they come on the market.

Wii Sports Videos

I hope you enjoyed the videos I put in this lens. They are good examples of what the Wii Sports games look like on the T.V. screens. All of the actions performed by the Mii players are done in real time by players of all shape, size, gender and age.

Wii is Good Therapy

As people age, the aches and pains that going along with the aging process start settling in. Too often it leads to a sedentary lifestyle that end up making us feel older than we are.
People who have suffered injury or degenerative disease have also found a way to exercise in enjoyable ways with the Wii.
Physical therapists and rehabilitation specials are beginning to use the Nintendo Wii as a way of making different forms of physical therapy more fun for their patients.
