A_Willow's Lensography

What a strange selection for a name, you may think! Well, as many of you know by now, I'm from Croatia and Willow is my last name translated in English.

Other than that, I really like willows... They are quite mystical, quiet and resistant. There are many myths and legends that give strange powers to willows. There is always some willow in horror movie whose leaves whisper in the night!

Bending tenderly with the wind, the willow is symbolic of feminine energy and loving kindness.

Holidays - Who Doesn't Like Them???

Halloween

In Croatia, we don't have Halloween. We celebrate our ancestors on October, 1st - it's tradition to go to deceased relative grave, bring flowers, light a candle and say a prayer for his soul.
We have masquerades in February. Still love Halloween tradition!

I have really mixed feelings about Valentine's day!!!

Christmas

Time of joy and giving!

Name Day! - Turning every single day into celebration?!

This is a story of celebrating a Name Day tradition - not birthday but close... And you can find out in a list I've provided on which day your Name Day is and maybe you can start celebrate your own Name Day!

It took me a bit to discover tis was a lensography. Great job. There's a lot I will want to read since my husband's mother was Croatian. His dad was a Serb, so you can see what an uphill battle my-mother-in law had with her in-laws, LOL, except it wasn't always funny.

It has been such a pleasure getting to know you through RocketMoms and also as our fearless WiWon leader. Thank you for everything you have done for me, our group, and Squidoo, Michelle :)

Spotlighting The Best of Squidoo!

Grandma's Willow Tree

Author/Written By: Marilyn Ferguson

Looking back and reminiscing
The way things used to be
I recall a little girl of nine
Climbing Grandma's willow tree.

Back into the country
Some quarter century ago
Running barefoot across the yard
Into the tree I'd go.

Its branches held a sweet retreat
I'd ascend when in dismay
Oh, the hours I spent in the tree
To lose myself in play.

The tree was close to perfect
Its willows touched the ground
Greenery hung like a curtain
And completely draped around.

The days I spent under its beckoning boughs
And moments it saw me through
Cherished times in a young girl's life
That years cannot undo.

What I'd give to go back again
To those untarnished years in time
To the fancies of a pigtailed girl
And the tree she left behind.

To be that little tomboy
With jeans rolled to the knee
To dream the dreams that she once dreamed
In Grandma's willow tree.
