Registry cleaner software is supposed to speed up the performance of Windows. When I set out to get one for my computer I found a startling discovery - no humans were to be found! Which Windows registry cleaners can you trust with the most vital part of your Windows PC, the registry?

The Registry Cleaner Software Scam

My friends tell me I'm too dramatic. Maybe there isn't really a scam in the registry cleaner software business, but there is definitely something afoot. It is thought that registry cleaner software can have a positive impact on Windows performance. Although this might be true, there is a trend in registry cleaner software that makes selection of a registry utility a difficult. You can follow my summary below or read the whole thing from the registry cleaner site that turned me on to this problem when I was searching to buy - Optimize Registry Repair.

Registry Cleaner Software Identity Crisis

No humans to be found!

There are a bunch of registry cleaners with websites that are nearly identical, with the same testimonials by the people with the same names (presumably fake), the same page names, etc. They have the same support available - email and/or live chat only. They have no company associated with them, no physical contact information, no address, no post box, no city, state or country.

As soon as we see that kind of information lacking a red flag goes up. Who is behind this product? Why won't they identify themselves? When email support doesn't answer my questions, who can I talk to? If I want to upgrade will they still be around at that point?

There are 2 possible scenarios that may be behind this. 1 - the people behind the product could be using black hat strategies like installing the utility along with spyware (or allowing affiliates to do this) and don't want to be identified. 2 - the real company that manufactures the software sells a rebranded version of their software to individuals who then market the software with the new name using the same site layout and testimonials. I wasn't able to determine which, if either of these is correct but I offer them to remind you - do your research before you buy!

The Best Registry Cleaners

Finding a diamond in the dirt

So I set out to find all about the registry cleaner scam. Right, right, not a scam, just questionable business practice. I identified 3 registry cleaner software packages that stand above the others as unique tools (not rebranded), but only 2 of them appeared to have a real company behind them who offered their physical location and contact information. These two registry cleaners were Registry Mechanic and RegCure.

Although you will likely do the job of cleaning your registry with any registry utility, we were alarmed by the lack of human presence many of the tools. If you are looking to increase your Windows performance and repair errors with a good registry cleaner software utility, choose Registry Mechanic or RegCure - you won't be disappointed by either one. Both have won many awards, and they get our award for being among the only registry tools backed by a real company.
