Wines Of The World
Wine Offers a change from beer or spirits, but can be can be intimidating for those who don't know much about it, but want to learn a bit more about what they are drinking. Maybe you want to try different wines, or try the same wine from different countries. Maybe you've always drunk the cheapest wines, or whatever is on offer at the time, rather than actually thinking about wine.
If you have found a wine that you like, you might want to try wines from the same region or the same country, of the same type of grape, or even just of the same colour. Perhaps you tried a wine on holiday and want to try more from that country. You might like a certain grape like a Merlot, and be interested in seeing how it tastes from other countries.
If you take your wine seriously, you might consider taking a wine tasting course so that you can appreciate wine more, and know what to look for when choosing a wine.
Red Wines are available from all over the world, and popular choices include Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabinet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Grenache.
White wines such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Grigio and Muscat are popular, and are also available from different countries such as France, Italy and Germany.
Rosé wines can be made in different ways, and their colours range from pale orange to almost purple. They have previously been thought of as not as good as red or white wines, but are increasingly in popularity.
Champagne is probably the most well known wine, and is protected under international law. This means that only wine made from grapes in the Champagne region of France can legally be called Champagne. Other countries have sparkling wines that are their equivalent of Champagne. Spain has Cava, Germany has Sekt, and Italy has Spumante. Champagne and other sparkling wines are proving to be popular as more people try them, and can think of special occasions when a bottle of Champagne would be just the thing.
Why not try a wine from the New World? America, Australia, South Africa and South America are producing some excellent wines that represent excellent value.
