The Tao Of Wing Chun Kung Fu

See Shadow Hit Shadow, See Target Hit Target

Wing Chun Kung Fu is a mis-understood system. The politics within the Wing Chun community is mind numbing. It is ashame such great martial artist don't get along. Not that I could force them to but maybe they could check thier egos at the door. First off Yip Man's wing chun wasn't the only wing chun around back in thoughs days. Matter of fact there are entire linages that have nothing to do with yip man. (atleast not directly)

If you are reading this article and are familar with the politics surrounding the yip man family school. I have one thing to say about it. Logically if I had 2 sons , IT WOULD BE THEM that I would pass my knowledge, skills, honors etc.... too. Nobody else.

I believe shaolin and wing chun kung fu are from the same family. A Wing Chun practitioner should seek peace. Only through understanding that could he or she ever hope to gain true martial skill. Notice I didn't say brawling, I said skill. Its important to understand that statement I just made. One of the reasons Wing Chun gets trash talked is because for as simple as the system is, its one of the hardest to master. I would say after about 10years of training you will be ready to call yourself a beginner. Tuff pill to swallow for most mcdojo, type of people. They would rather go to a MMA gym and you know what, MOST people would probable do better in a mma school then a Wing Chun kung fu School.

Why? Because most people don't have the patience to learn things like Sensitivity,Chi,Structure, balance,Internal Punching etc..

Its much easier to learn how to scream and throw your punch Externally as hard as you can.

Honestly though if you are looking for the ability to go toe to toe with someone you are better off training mma.

If your mindset is to end the situation as fast as possible, Wing Chun kung fu is the clear winner, if for any reason a woman invented it to fight a man. The system itself exploits the weaknesses that we all share as humans. Also keep in mind that Wing Chun uses scientific principles to beat strengh.

Here are some basic Wing Chun Ideas not in any special order.

Simplicity- The less complicated your techniques are
the more likely they will work when you need them too. If you spend all your time analyzing whats going on you are are going to get punched in the face.

Centerline- Being direct in attack. Attacking the other persons center(most vital areas of the body)Also taking a persons center to take their root.(balance)

Economy of Motion- No move wasted, short fast burst of energy thats hard to block(because you can't see it coming)

Being Relaxed- If you are breathing heavy that means you aren't relaxed. If you aren't relaxed you could have an adrenaline dump and your entire fight is gone.

Softness- Yields to stronger force. The hardest thing for a strong person to do, is to give up his strength. unfortunately if a person wont stop relying on there muscles to help them. They will never be able to use true power.
