Winning Decisions: Getting It Right The First Time

As part of our SAMBA 2008 program, we've read and reviewed "Winning Decisions: Getting it Right the First Time" by J. Edward Russo and Paul J. H. Schoemaker. These are the lesson's we've learned from "Winning Decisions." Learn the concepts, put them into practice, and start making "winning decisions."

Making decisions right the first time is hard. How many times have we thought we're choosing right, but end up disappointed? Under environmental and time pressures, we often use our intuition as a guide, but overlook the importance of how we make our decisions. Although we're required to decide with incomplete information and a high level of uncertainty, there's a process that helps guide a favorable outcome to any situation. A framework that allows reframing of the problem, improving the quality of options, converting expert opinions into useful insights, saves time and energy.

Good decision-making is process that's a learnable. It overcomes agonizing decision-making to work smarter, not harder. Thinking about our decisions and where you spend your time, and consciously weighing your options allows you to come to better conclusions by leaving as little as possible to chance.
