A low cost and effective way to organize your closet

Clothes on the floor and shoes all over the place are things you no longer have to deal with. Wire closet storage systems are simple, yet effective and a great choice for use in a home where you don't plan on staying for any length of time; college dorms and apartments come to mind for myself. The pieces of these storage systems are durable so you don't have to worry about damaging them and they are low in price, allowing you to stay within your budget.

Wire closet storage systems may be quite inexpensive, but they are very durable.

They can hold books, bowling balls or anything else that is heavy which you want to store off the floor in your closet. Some wire closet organizers to have stated weight limits which you will want to abide by. Failure to do so can result in damage to the items in your closet as well as personal injury, like that bowling ball falling on your head.

Wire storage products may not be the best for storing sweaters because they can leave lines across them, but you can avoid this by lining the shelves with cardboard. I personally have a wire closet system and haven't noticed any problems, but I am not real picky with my clothes either. It's possible that I just haven't noticed this, it could be time to get out the cardboard.

Get the most out of your storage space with wire closet storage kits

A kit is a great way to go if it has all or most of the components that you are looking for. Buying a kit will also save you money because the per item price is cheaper than buying everything separately. Many wire closet storage kits come with racks which can hold wire baskets as slide out drawers. This will give you extra space in your closet, but you will save a ton of money by not installing wooden drawers.

If you are going to store smaller items like socks and underwear in the wire baskets, you should get the drawers with the wires very close together to avoid loosing them to the closet monster. It's bad enough that the washer and dryer eat enough of these items.

Two basic kinds of wire closet storage systems

The first involves attaching a track to the wall. Then you can add the wire baskets or wire shelves at various intervals along the track. This is great if you need to adjust or add more baskets and shelves in the future. The track system will also save your dry wall because you are not putting extra holes in the wall for each shelf and basket.

The second type of wire closet storage system involves attaching each individual piece of the kit or each individual product to the wall. This can be done using a combination of screws, clips, anchors, and wall braces. You can find all of these accessories anywhere wire closet organization supplies are sold. This method takes a lot more work, but it will give you an extremely customized system, so it may be the route to take if you are very picky or particular about the way your closet it laid out.

Wire closet storage kits come in basic colors

If plain jane colors just aren't your thing then you can spray paint the wire products because they are coated with epoxy. Make sure you are over 18 if you go to Walmart for your spray paint, they will card you.

Don't worry about installing your storage system, it is very simple and can be done with simple handtools like a drill and screwdriver. I would also recommend having a stud finder on hand as well to make find the studs in your closet easier.

Remember:

A wire closet storage system will not due you any good if you don't use it.
