Is a Wireless Home Security System for You?

With so many home security system services available, it is hard to know if a wireless home security system or hardwired system is the way to go, or even some new technology that has is new on the market. The main goal should be to provide deterrents to make potential criminals think twice before choosing you, and to provide the highest level of peace of mind. There is nothing worse than thinking you are unprotected and at risk.
It is important to know that if you choose a managed service, like an ADT home security system, honeywell home security systems, or a brinks home security system will often have specific hardware and you will need to use their stuff. This is because their technicians and support people knows this technology and not the other stuff. If you install some fancy X10 home security video wireless surveillance cameras, the ADT or Brinks service will not be able to use them. You can still watch your home from your office, but you will need to call the police or the neighbors yourself. The advantages to using this kind of personal video surveillance is the ability to save wireless surveillance cameras home security video footage and to watch your home when you are away.
If you are a do-it-yourself person, there are many diy home security solutions. I found a guide called The Ultimate Guide to Home Security really useful. It points out some pitfalls that you can run into if you have never installed a home security system.
If you know which video cameras and security alarms you want, then take a look at a website called the Home Security Store. They have every brand imaginable, and the best prices I have found.
The big surprise in doing a diy home security system are the hidden costs. Be sure to know what you are doing before you start, and you will save yourself a ton of money.
Remember, most criminals know the police take 30 minutes to show up, so get yourself a brinks home security safe to lock up the things you really do not wish to lose, and put a strong lock on the home office. Get used to locking your office, because it is no fun to lose your computer, fax and printer in one day.
The other best (and cheapest) thing you can do is set up home security decoys around the outside of your house - security stickers, cheap plastic cameras and dog warning labels.

- Thanks for the information. You're right, the important thing is to give the bad guys a reason not to target your home - even if it's not true!
