Folklore, supernatural mystery and the local history of Wirral and Liverpool create a unique blend of Dark Fantasy tales by Adele Cosgrove-Bray.

Adele Cosgrove-Bray began writing poetry at the age of fourteen, and at seventeen became a member of Leigh Writers' Workshop, when her first poem plus a humorous small article were published in Pipes of Pan. Adele went on to write and illustrate a monthly dream analysis column for Your Future magazine under the truly dreadful pseudonym of Niamh Koo. Adele self-published a quarterly music fanzine for four years before becoming far more interested in writing fiction.

She was elected Chair for Riverside Writers in 2003, a post she still holds. She is also an Ambassador for Liverpool's European Capital of Culture 2008 celebrations.

Educated at Golborne High School and Leigh Technical College in Lancashire, Adele later attended the City of Liverpool Community College (Art & Design Faculty) and also that same college's Riversdale Campus (Pottery Studio).

Adele has worked as an editor for The Birchwood Guidebook, a health promotion officer for South Sefton Health Authority, a library assistant at the Religion & Philosophy Library at Liverpool City Libraries, a photographer for Conservation Practice, a tarot card reader, and as a potter and tour guide for Pretty Ugly Pottery.

She has been a member of the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids since 1999.

She has lived on the Wirral peninsula in Cheshire since the Millennium, where she writes full-time . Her husband ,Richard, opened his own tattoo studio in Liverpool city centre in 1993. They share life with two dogs, two cats, an assortment of hedgehogs and bats, and a large black toad who lives under the back step.

Ancient Magic in a Modern World

Tales of Dark Fantasy

Adele Cosgrove-Bray is the author of several published short stories (see below) and has worked as a freelance writer for New Age magazines such as "Your Future" , "Exploring the Surpernatural" and "Prediction". She also is a published poet.

Her main creative focus is Dark Fantasy fiction. Adele is currently writing "Bethany Rose", the third in a series of novels set in Wirral and Liverpool.

Readers can already meet some of her characters in her published short fiction. Jason, who is the main focus of "The Club", also features in the novel "Rowan". As well as being the focus of a novel, Rowan and his aunt, Lydia, appear in "Seagull Inn". No-one from "Tamsin" appears in a short story yet, though that could well change!

The pencil sketch here is of Rowan.

Adele's Published Work

Adele's work can also be read in four anthologies. Three were published by Hadley Rille Books: "Seagull Inn", a ghost story in "Ruins Terra"; "Old World Magic" a tale of the notorious Caldy fae in "Ruins Metropolis"; and "Project", when a beautiful and androgynous crew fly over a flooded Earth. The fourth,"Dark of the Night: An Anthology of Shadows", was published by Dark Moon Press, and features a tale of vampire sub-culture called "The Club".

All four of these anthologies are available from Amazon or from other online retailers, or from high street book stores.

Also available are "A Wirral Otherkin Trilogy" and "Quiet Lives".

Quiet Lives

"Quiet Lives" is a collection of four short stories available as a download. Nothing is quite as it first seems with these deceptively simple tales.

"Dear Harry " - Armajeet writes a parting letter to Harry. He is lovely but she's tired of too much compromise - and her friends would rip him to shreds.

"Mirror " - Having violated Melissa's hospitality, a salesman learns that not all witches comply with New Age stereotypes.

"The Four Seasons" - When Granny visits, teenager Megan and her mother face a yawning generation gap.

"Beautiful" - Dawn is as tall as a man and twice as broad, yet her determined quest for love, passion and beauty will strike a chord with everyone who has ever felt disheartened by their own reflection.

A Wirral Otherkin Trilogy

"A Wirral Otherkin Trilogy" offers three Dark Fantasy tales set on the Wirral peninsula in Cheshire, England.

"Frog" - The ancient magic of the notorious Caldy Hill fae spills into our modern world.

"New Year's Day" - Meet the selkies of the Dee Estuary.

"Swap" - After reading this tale of the Caldy fae, you'll be more careful of what you wish for.

Barren Worlds

"Project" - A beautiful and androgynous crew fly over a desolated Earth in this story which draws on Sumarian folklore.

Dark of the Night: An anthology of shadows
