go ahead, stick it all together.
Quick notice: not making a buck here. All ad proceeds go to charity-- cross my heart. So, with that said...
If you're a musician, business geek, or a mix of both and you're trying to get into the music business, there's one thing you need tons of: influence.
You need to be seen, heard, and remembered. How?
1. Get a web page.
2. Get a MySpace account.
3. Get another web page.
4. Get a facebook page.
5. ...
You see where this is going. But when your story is split up all over the web, influence is hard to control. You might get noticed, but you'll never be understood or influential until your whole web presence is put together.
So let's make you a lens. It'll work like a neatly organized list of all the crap you do online, complete with links, youtube clips, pictures, or anything else you can think to include.
No coding required, and it only takes about a half hour to make one, even if you take your sweet time.

This one here is just a sample of what's possible:

A record deal ain't what it used to be. Instead of working to help great musicians off the runway and into their careers, the major labels now exist only to guard a territory that doesn't belong to them anymore. That's why Without a Label is here--...
Fresh Lenses
These lenses were just made moments ago. They're not all as fantastic as yours, maybe, but they're awful new. And that counts for something, right?
Musicians beware: "Coldplay Opening Act" contest ain't kosher., Without a Label
Wait, so what is a Lens?
Cause, like, it sounds expensive and complicated.I heard people get paid for this... is that true?
I might as well tell you myself: Squidoo users (including you) get a share of ad earnings. When you build a lens, it displays advertisements. Whenever those get clicked, you get credit for it. You can decide to either (a) give the money to a charity, automatically and with zero effort, or (b) get a check in the mail from Squidoo.
But it takes all the fun out of it if you do it for the money. I say, ignore the turds who'd love to get rich doing this (they won't for exactly that reason). Only do it if you think it's enjoyable.
If you build a lens using the button on this page, the payment will default to a music-related charity. That'll help you keep it lighthearted, I hope.
(By the way, if you choose to give all the money to charity, you can elect to have the ads removed from your lens, so as not to annoy your visitors.)

Without a Label
A little about this organizationWhat's special about them?
1 they're a do-it-yourself crowd who understands that they don't need a record deal (or want one) in order to succeed in the business.
2 they're a bunch of dirty hippies who believe in sharing. For every single thing they learn about succeeding in music, they share that knowledge with the whole group.
3 they'd rather lead than follow. They're not interested in reading the manual for success-- they'd rather rewrite the whole thing. That means invention, innovation, and a general air of craziness color every discussion they have.
You should check out their website and eavesdrop on the conversation. Don't worry, they're only dangerous on stage.
