Is EVANGELISM a Scary Word?
One of the things often encountered when witnessing Christ is that many do not respond in a positive way, which can be very discouraging. One of the most common reasons for this is because they don't see the need for salvation, let alone for themselves. I have often proceeded to witness with this in mind: "If I just share my testimony of how and why I got saved, how likely is it that they could possibly reject the message?" Right? Wrong.
The response is almost always: "Jesus is okay for you, but I'm doing just fine." Some decide that it is time for a good juicy debate, take the opposing side, and proceed to play a fun game of verbal ping pong. Less frequently, yet embarrassing for everyone, is when one becomes hostile and/or downright cruel, squeezing accusations of personal attack out of what began as a moment of personal transparency. Just one encounter like that is enough to stop anyone from attempting to bring up the subject ever again. It takes a great deal of courage to face that sort of abuse, especially in today's morally mixed up culture.
But just what if you were equipped to handle almost every response? Wouldn't you feel more confident if you were trained to know what to say, why it must be said, how to say it, and how to bypass the arguments and distractions and get right to the heart of the matter?
Actor Kirk Cameron and Author Ray Comfort (The Way of the Master) have dedicated their lives to helping you to do just that. These two teach you how to help others to see that we are all in desperate need of salvation, which encourages true repentance and enables people to see why Jesus really is good news.
Please watch the videos. You'll find, as I did, that what you experience while sharing your faith is not uncommon, and that past failures are not necessarily signs that evangelism is not for you.

"The Way of the Master is a fresh new television program that grabs your attention from the opening scene and sustains it throughout the entire program. The interviews with people on the street are a vivid revelation of the terrible need people have for the Christ of the Gospel. I was encouraged and motivated, and you will be too."

Starring Kirk Cameron

FIREPROOF, from the same team that made the 2006 hit FACING THE GIANTS, is a Christian relationship drama with a very strong message. The film stars Kirk Cameron of the classic television series GROWING PAINS as Captain Caleb Holt, a fireman whose fearlessness is limited to his work. At home with his wife of seven years, Caleb shows little of the bravery he displays on the job, and has a failing marriage as a result. Fighting over every little thing, Caleb and his wife, Catherine (Erin Bethea), are on the verge of signing divorce papers when Caleb's father and coworkers urge him to approach his marriage in the same way he fights vicious flames. When Caleb's father gives him the "Love Dare," a 40-day guide to religiously motivated marriage help, Caleb begins a difficult journey to reclaim his wife, and in the process, his faith in God. With several action-packed scenes, FIREPROOF uses fire metaphors in its exploration of marriage. The film offers an alternative to the common romantic comedy and, some might argue, a more multidimensional view of romance. The film examines both the ups and inevitable downs of married life, offering faith as a prescription for saving what may at first glance appear to have already failed. Likely to please its target audience, the film offers a fresh perspective on marriage and inspiring relationship tips viewers may want to try regardless of their faith.

- Our church and our children's school have both done 'The Way of the Master' series. I wish I had done it before I went to Russia this summer. I think it would have helped immensely.
