Wizard's First Rule Synopsis
Taken from the back of the book
In a dark age when it takes courage to live, and more than mere courage to challenge those who hold dominion, Richard and Kahlan must take up that challenge or become the next victims. Beyond awaits a bewitching land where even the beat of their hearts could betray them. Yet, Richard fears nothing so much as what secrets his sword might reveal about his own soul. Falling in love would destroy them - for reasons Richard can't imagine and Kahlan dare not tell him.
In their darkest hour, hunted relentlessly, tormented by treachery and loss, Kahlan cals upon Richard to reach beyond his sword - to invoke within himself something more noble. Neither knows that the rules of battle have just changed... or that their time has run out.
This is the beginning. One book. One Rule. Witness the birth of a legend.
My Review of this astounding book
This book in audio format definitely rides high amongst the many fantasy novels I have read and/or listened to.
The action in the book starts straight away and when you start to think the book is quietening down the action starts up afresh. This is definitely one of the most action filled book I have ever read/listened to and unlike quiet a lot of other books I have read is not split into three parts to get more cash out of the reader.
Even though it is part of a large set of books the story within is self contained and still leaves you wanting for more, to see what the heroes will get up to next and to see where the story will take them.
As I have said before the action never seems to slow down (apart from one bit three quarters of the way through the book) and is packed with unexpected turns which makes this quite considerable sized book hard to put down. To give you an idea of the size of the story the audiobook goes on for 33 hours.
The part where the story slowed down is probably the most controversial part of the book when Richard is captured by a Mord-Sith. It is very S&M based and some will probably find it disturbing and it definitely goes on way too long. But it is a key element to Richard's character building.
Terry Goodkind's character building is excellent and not too overly drawn out like Robert Jordan's Characters are in The Wheel of Time.
If you like fast action and are not too overly bothered with world building then this is definitely the novel for you.

Some of the best fantasy books I have read
Please use this plexo to vote for YOUR favorite.
1
Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind
This is the first book in the Sword of Truth series, a series spanning at least 10 books. If you like true epics, this is definitely one to read.2 points
2
Magician by Raymond E. Feist
Book 1 of the Riftwar Saga. This book was so successful that Raymond Feist has wrote another 19 novels set in this realm he has created.2 points
3
The Dragonlance Chronicles by Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman
Margaret Weiss and Tracy Hickman were the creators of the dragonlance modules for the D and D RPGs. From this they created this magnificent trilogy. Up to this date there has been over 190 Dragonlance novels.2 points
4
Pawn of Prophecy by David Eddings
This is the first book in a five book series and has been described as in the style of Tolkien (without the poetry, singing and unneccessary battles).1 point
5
Ship of Magic by Robin Hobb
A very well wrote book that mixes fantasy with pirates of the sea. This breakaway fantasy book does not include dwarves and gnomes, but instead ships that have a concience of their own know as liveships. These ships infused with magic can accomplish feats that would turn a normal ship into driftwood.1 point
6
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling
Harry Potter, a boy who grew up in the normal world suddenly discovers that he is a wizard and worst of all the he has to go to school for it. This childrens book has become so famous that even grown ups are now reading it. My only critisism is that JK Rowling could have collaborated with a male author to give this book the male touch which is most certainly needs.1 point
7
Forging the Darksword by Margaret Weis
Outlawed by the mage-priests of Thimhallen since the Iron Wars, the Ninth Mystery, called Technology, has survived only among society's outcasts until a young man born without magic and a priest who is a catalyst of magical energy form an alliance that shakes their complacent and stagnant world. The authors of the "Dragonlance" series again demonstrate their talent for vivid world-crafting and strong characterization in a novel that will appeal to fans of epic fantasy.1 point
8
The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan
The Wheel of Time, Book 1. Robert Jordan is the most verbose writer I have found and his character building is very comprehensive. Thus said it makes his books an excellent albeit slow read.0 points
9
The Diamond Throne by David Eddings
David Eddings breaks away from the world he created for the Belgariad and The Mallorean and creates a whole new fantasy world. A very enjoyable read.0 points
10
Dragon Wing by Margaret Weis
Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman created seven fully realized and distinct worlds for this series that spans seven books. Each of the worlds are conected together by the Death Gate.0 points
11
Battlefield Earth by L. Ron Hubbard
An intelligent and creative masterwork of adventure in the far future, L. Ron Hubbard's Battlefield Earth opens with breathtaking scope on an Earth dominated for a thousand years by an alien invader - and man is an endangered species. From the handful of surviving humans a courageous leader emerges - Jonnie Goodboy Tyler - who challenges the might of the alien Psychlo empire in a battle of epic scale, danger and intrigue, with the fate of Earth and the galaxies hanging in the balance.0 points
12
Daughter of the Empire by Raymond E. Feist & Janny Wurts
This is Raymond Feist's first collaboration and a follow on series to his magnificent Riftwar Saga. It combines Feists mastery of fantasy writing with Wurt's expertise in plots and culture.0 points
13
The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks
Terry Brooks's first book set in a world that could be our own in the future. A world that has lost the knowledge of science and magic has emerged. Terry Brooks creates believable characters with traits that could be our own and weaves this story like no other can.0 points
14
Stainless Steel Rat is Born by Harry Harrison
The stainless steel rat is a futuristic thief and con-man, the best of the best. In fact he was so good that when they finally caught him they enrolled him in the special services to catch people like himself. Superb story and very amusing without it detracting from the story.0 points
15
Dune by Frank Herbert
This science fiction book is set on a desert planet where its inhabitants have adopted a very unique way of travelling, that being on the backs of giant worms. If you like drama and intrigue you will love the 'plots within plots'.0 points
16
The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
It is such a pity that The Lord of the Rings isn't a fast paced as its prequel. Excellent book.0 points
17
A Spell for Chameleon (Xanth Novels) by Piers Anthony
Piers Anthony's Xanth is the most magical world ever. Where every living entity has some form of magical power. This series is a must read for any True Fantasy Reader.0 points
18
Lord Foul's Bane by Stephen R. Donaldson
Thomas Covenant a leper and outcast is transported into a magical world where his physical disease is cured but not his mental disease. This is an excellently wrote book from the first of the Thomas Covenant trilogies.0 points
19
Mort by Terry Pratchett
Mort is the forth Discworld novel and probably the best of the series that now spans well over 30 novels. In this satirical fantasy story Mort becomes apprentice to Death.0 points

Legend of The Seeker
Legend Of The Seeker
Most of the casting so far looks okay with Bridget Regan as Kahlan and Bruce Spence ("Mad Max 2" and "The Matrix Revolutions") as Zedd. Unfortunately though they have cast Craig Horner to play Richard Cypher and he looks way to wimpy for the role in my eyes and only time will tell if he really fits the role.
Rest assured though that Terry Goodkind is working with crew to make Legend of the Seeker and if you want more information on the production click on this link!

Have read all the books - luved them all. Was very excited about the "Legend of the Seeker" but as always, not as good as the book. Great lens. Kudos! Happy that you included books by Jordan (r.i.p.), Donaldson and Eddings. All great series.

it sounds like an interesting read. Not sure about the audio though. there is only one book that i am able to listen to and that's only because I read them a hundred times. I can absorb it better if I'm reading.
