If you lived in Cleveland any during the 1970s & 1980s there were a few things you knew. You knew that Brian Sipe was Quarterback for the Browns, that the "Flats" were not a cool place to hang out, that if you needed a T-Shirt Daffy Dan was the only place to go and finally you knew that the best darn radio in Cleveland was being transmitted from 100.7 WMMS The Buzzard.
About WMMS
WMMS (100.7 FM) is a radio station in Cleveland, Ohio, with a rich history of broadcasting both locally and nationally. From April 1974 until September 2007, its longtime promotional mascot was "The Buzzard." At the station's peak of popularity in the 1970s and 1980s, it had a stable of personalities that was fundamentally unchanged for many years, and attained a dominant market share in the local ratings, often posting market-record high figures...
Me & The Buzzard
I clearly remember listening to Cleveland's WMMS in the early 1980s. They redefined rock and made it fun to listen to the radio. They had free concerts, awesome DJ's and a rockin' playlist. I truly miss real radio. The kind that had people talking. When WMMS played Journey or David Bowie or Styx everyone you knew was listening. You could lean out your car window and pass 10 cars that all were tuned into WMMS. Today it's sad that radio is missing a soul. So this lens is dedicated to the staff and fans who made WMMS an American Icon. The WMMS Link List

- Forget Alan Freed and the Moondog Coronation Ball. Forget the Raspberries, the James Gang, the Dead Boys and the other great bands that got their start in Northeast Ohio. If Cleveland has a national reputation as rock 'n roll town, it's because of a Boston native named John Gorman and the scruffy band of FM radio rebels he led as music and program director at WMMS / 100.7 from 1973 to 1986.
