Decorating Your Bedroom in a Wolf Theme

Lacey's Wolf Bedroom
My granddaughter, Lacey, loves wolves and she wanted her room decorated in a wolf theme. This lens shows some ideas my daughter used to make this a fun bedroom for a 10 year old girl! And, to show you how you can do it, too! All it takes is an idea and lots of shopping to find just the right stuff!
Lacey slept on the sofa in the living room for a month while all of the painting and decorating was done. She didn't look at the room until it was finished, and BOY was she surprised!!
A little history...
"This Old House"
This house belongs to Vicky (my daughter), Scott (my son-in-law), Scottie (grandson) and Lacey (granddaughter). It is a 100 year old farmhouse with large rooms and high ceilings. It has the wide baseboard and still has the original glass doorknobs! However, it was in bad need of some tender loving care.They are re-decorating it room by room. Each room has a theme. So far, they have done the master bedroom in Romantic Cottage, Lacey's room in Wolves, and Scottie's room in a 50's theme. Next...since Vicky chose the theme for the master bedroom, Scott got to choose the theme for the living room! He chose a vintage Route 66 theme. They used Route 66 tin signs, model cars, and other vintage items in this room. It's a casual and comfortable place to relax in the evening. She's not sure about the dining room and kitchen yet.
Getting Started...
First some preliminary work on the walls, filling in cracks and sanding was done by Scott. Also, a general clean up of the room and moving out most of the furniture.For the paint, she chose a light gray (this was Lacey's choice) and it worked out beautifully with the other wall decorations. I was a little unsure about the gray, but the dark blue curtains brighten it up. As you'll see, it's the perfect color for a night sky and full moon!
Vicky and I did the painting and we used BEHR paint from Home Depot. I can't say enough about how much we loved using that paint. It goes on easy and doesn't drip or splatter. We used a primer first and then one coat of flat enamel paint. The flat emamel is a washable flat paint. For the woodwork, we used a primer, then a semi-gloss enamel in Candlelight Ivory.
Next comes the shopping...
After the painting is done, then comes the fun part! Shopping and more shopping!Vicky had a vision of how she wanted the room to look and she did a great job! It took a lot of shopping for just the right things!
She found many wolf theme items can be found online just by visiting Amazon. But, she spent many hours looking in thrift shops, antique stores, craft shows, Lowes, and K-Mart! She wanted to find unique things to make this room special!
The wolf pen & ink drawing over the bed was bought from a local artist. She bought the desk at a used furniture store. The wolf plate set on the hutch was bought at a local antique store.

birch trees, wolf, full moon...
The birch trees are a pre-pasted wall mural set. These were easy to apply, but since the room has such high ceilings, the trees had to be pieced together. You can't tell it though. Also shown are wolf blankets, pillow, and pen & ink wolf drawing above bed. The blue curtains extend beyond the window on a metal decorative rod and the blue really brightens the room!
The life-size wolf is a wall mural. See how big he is! Lacey loves her beautiful wolf friend!
Note the glow-in-the-dark full moon. There is a chimney hole high on one wall (where a stovepipe originally went in) with a tin cover over it. Vicky used some originality to turn that cover into a full moon! She cut out a piece of foam core board the size of a dinnerplate, painted it in a pale yellow glow-in-the-dark paint and then glued it to the stove cover. It looks like a full moon! (A wolf room really needs a full moon!) So ingenious! Lacey loved it !

The Hutch & Wolf Plate Set
The hutch was originally a dining room hutch and Vicky painted that in the same paint as the woodwork, spray painted the hardware, and added wolf decals on the drawers. She added a bulletin board by removing the glass doors and shelves and glueing on rolled cork. She then used flat molding around the edges to hold in it place. Blue vinyl baskets on the shelves make great storage for toys. Lacey's TV, DVD, and DVD collection are kept on the shelves behind the doors!
The wolf plate set on top of the hutch was purchased at a local antique store.
Lacey already had the wolf stuffed animal, wolf alarm clock, and there's a fish in that bowl! Artwork was done by Lacey!
There is a soft white rug at the end of the bed in front of the hutch.

Relax and read a book!
Lacey loves to read (mostly about wolves!) and already had the chair and plenty of books. Vicky found this small table at an antique store. She added another wolf lamp for reading (see the howling wolves on the lampshade? Isn't that cool?) and a picture of Lacey and her best friends. A warm, snuggly wolf throw for the chair and a dark blue rug completes the reading area!
