Wombats are from Australia and they are a type of marsupial, which means they have a pouch in which they carry their young. Although they look somewhat cuddly, they are very tough and aren't afraid of humans.
Although mostly very slow-moving, they can run as fast as 24 mph for about a minute if they want.
In Australia it is illegal to keep a wombat as a pet.
What do Wombats eat?
Wombats come out of their underground burrows at night to eat grasses, trees and plants.

Learn About Wombats
- Wombats
- Full-grown wombats can weigh up to a whopping 36 kg! They are territorial animals, but will share their burrows with visitors.
- Wombat - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
- Wombats are Australian marsupials; they are short-legged, muscular quadrupeds, approximately one metre (3 feet) in length and with a very short tail. The name wombat comes from the Eora Aboriginal community who were the original inhabitants of the Sydney area.
- Unique Australian Animals - Wombats
- Wombats have long claws that are adapted for digging, and they live in burrows, from which they emerge at night to feed on grasses and other plants. The teeth of wombats are of continuous growth, and, a single pair of chisellike incisors is found in each jaw.
- Wombats
- Wombats are without a doubt (in my extremely biased opinion) the most lovable of Australia's many marsupials.
- Wombania's Wombat Information Center
- Pictures and information about Australian wombats, including the Common wombat, the Southern hairy-nosed wombat, and the Northern hairy-nosed wombat.
