Why Women Live Longer
Japanese Women Win !
We all know that women live longer than men - in fact the gap now has narrowed to five years. Partly because men are looking after themselves better. But what about Japanese women ? Did you know (WHO figures) that the average life expectancy of a Japanese woman is 86. It must be the diet but maybe there are other environmental factors as well. Maybe the Japanese women have a secret women vitamin formula? No,it is simply that the Japanese diet always consists of rice and vegetables with meat and fish. A friend of mine returned from Japan and she was amazed to find that she was exactly the same weight as she was when she left ! But she had eaten an awful lot! She attributed it to the diet - Japanese food is served in small portions and there is plenty of variety. The nutrition experts say that the more colourful a meal is, the better it is as each of the colours represent the many and varied nutrients and vitamins that we need. Certainly the Japanese meal is like that. The idea of small portions is a winner as well. The Japanese also win when it comes to the battle against obesity. Only about 3% of the population are obese - compare that to USA where the figure is a staggering 30%. So to live longer and remain slim, we have to eat properly and that is easier said than done !OTHER VITAMIN GROUPS FOR WOMEN:-
Vitamin D is essential for fixing calcium in the bones but very often exposure to sunlight is needed on the skin so that you can manufacture your own Vitamin D. They say that exposure to sun (for the face and the arms) could be up to 30 minutes a day , say when walking.
Vitamin B12. See the RSS feed below. Just wanted to add that it is very important for the nervous system. If we do not get enough of B12 it may cause anemia and also neuritis which is not at all pleasant. Our nerves are protected by a covering called myelin. Think of it as a sort of protective sleeve. Vitamin B12 is very important in keeping the myelin sheath in good condition. If that sheath becomes damaged permanently it will lead to dementia or other neurological disorders.
THE WORLD AROUND US.
Wouldn't it be great if we could get all these vitamins and minerals in one easy package? Note that industrialised production of most foods means that they have lost at least 50% of their vital nutrients so we would have to eat enormous quantities of these just to get our daily dose of the essential vitamins.
Add to that the environment in which we live- smog, smoking, too much exposure to the sun together with excesses of alcohol and other factors and we can see that we are already losing the race !
ALL the more reason to make sure that you can get your
