This Woman is my Superhero because...

She was strong...both mentally and physically. She was intelligent, assertive and she made smart choices..and kick butt. I saw the character as a female figure of strngth and fearlessness. So when the show aired in the 1970's based on the DC Comic created by William Moulton Marston...I was hooked. The charcter first appeared in A AllStar Comic #8 in 1941 and then was later launched by DC in 1944 and she had become one of their most famous super heros...ask yourself this...the last time you went to an adult Halloween party how many Wonder Women did you see versus Spiderman, Superman etc..case closed :) The character is so popular when looking for an image for my lens I had to add in comic book character or TV show to weed out the 1000's of women impersonating the character.

A Few Facts

1.Her creator William Marston was an American psychologist, feminist theorist, inventor, and comic book author. Two women, his wife Elizabeth Holloway Marston and Olive Byrne, (who lived with the couple in a polyamorous relationship), served as exemplars for the character and greatly influenced the heroine's creation.

2. She was a founding member of The Justice League

3. Princess Diana is a member of a fictional tribe of Amazons, based on the Amazons of Greek mythology. Her name is reflective of the mythological character, Diana or Artemis. Her mother is Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons. When Diana leaves the Amazons to travel to the world outside, she is known as both Wonder Woman, and as Princess Diana. As Wonder Woman, she was awarded several gifts by the Olympian gods, including the Lasso of Truth created from the Golden Girdle of Gaea and indestructible bracelets formed from the shield Aegis of Athena.

4. The character has been in the as the famous 1975 to 1979 television adaptation starring Lynda Carter, as well as in animation like the Super Friends and Justice League animated series, including the recent Justice League: The New Frontier animated movie.

You bet. Great pick.

Robert_Ratcliff says:

Excellent Superhero because I love strong women who are independent and know how to wear satin tights!

I have always loved Wonder Woman. Its time to revive her.

Strong, fun, intelligent - and a pleasure to watch. Great imagery, and a fun TV show.

No. Please pass the peas.

papawu says:

I never looked at, let alone read the comics. I wasn't really a comic book person, but I definitely loved the show with Lynda Carter. You have to understand that I spoke no English until the age of 7 and comic books were not a source used to teach me the language.

If you have any suggestions

for this page

I'm looking for suggestions for more good articles, photos, videos, blog posts, etc about this person. Think of this like the "External Resources" part of a Wikipedia page. What references would you add about my superhero?

You got it all right except one thing. All American Comics originally published Sensation Comics, Wonder Woman and All Star Comics where Wonder Woman was a member of the Justice Society of America or the JSA. It was published by All American which was really a sister company of DC Comics, which was absorbed in 1944.

My favorite version of Wonder Woman was two different eras-the Golden Age (or WW2 version) and the one George Perez relaunched in the 1980's. When he left the book, it went downhill.

Well, it would be good to have some of the comic book pictures, the early ones from the 40's. Didn't the show have her go from a 40's Nazi fighter to a modern day woman?

Also compare her to some real wonder women! Caroline Kennedy

P.S. I made this lens for the Squidoo Superheroes Project

I was invited to participate in the Squidoo Superhero Project, making 5 lenses in 2 weeks about the people who have inspired me, mentored me, changed the way I look at the world. The people I just want to say a big loud public THANKS to.

If you buy anything from this page, you'll automatically (for free, of course) be sending a royalty straight to the Squidoo Charity Fund, which pays out to nonprofits like JDRF and Room to Read and Donors Choose every month.
