Wood Working Plans Lead To Stress Free Projects

Here's a little scenario for you. There are literally hundreds of possible woodworking projects out there, but I'll keep things simple for this example.

Let's say you want to do something about the coffee table you have in your living room. You don't like the one you have now, but you don't really feel like going out and buying another one.

You instead decide to get a little creative, and build yourself a new coffee table. It's just a small, simple project. Anybody could do it, right?

Having these thoughts, you decide to just "wing it", and don't bother with any wood working plans.

So you start your project, and right away you have second thoughts about deciding to "wing it". Everything is going wrong, and nothing is going right. You're already a few hours into this thing, and you've pretty much gotten nowhere.

First on your list of problems is the wood. What kind of wood should you use? What is it going to cost you? How much will you need?

On top of that, you don't know what kinds of tools you will need for the job. Know what the worst thing is? There's an even bigger problem to face once you clear these two hurdles.

After you've decided on a wood, you think you have enough of it, and you have the tools you think you're going to need... there's still the question of the design. What are the measurements going to be? Surely you took some measurements beforehand, and you've got an idea of what the finished product is going to look like?

OK, that's enough of our little scenario.

If I offended anyone with my example, I apologize. That wasn't my intention by any means. I'm just proving a point. So what's the point?

When it comes to doing your own wood projects, wood working plans are a must. Everything that went wrong in the scenario I mentioned above: the problems with the wood (kind, cost, quantity), tools needed for the job, and design (complete with measurements) - can all be AVOIDED COMPLETELY.

All you have to do is make sure you have a good set of plans before you begin. If you do that, you'll save a nice amount of money (because you won't have to hire the work out), and you'll also get a tremendous feeling of accomplishment.

To me, that's the best part!
