Wood Stove Inserts: Prevent your Heat from Going up the Chimney!
Oops, what?
That's right. Traditional fireplaces are great for atmosphere, but a large percentage of the heat generated from your burning logs literally goes up the chimney along with the smoke.
With the price of any home fuel, including wood, you want to burn as efficiently as you can. Many people are upgrading their open fireplaces to one of the many new models of wood stove inserts available today for that reason. They want to save fuel and money.
Wood stove inserts are great to have. You still get to enjoy the ambiance of having a fire, but a higher percentage of the heat goes into your home, not up the chimney. Add a blower or fan, and you can easily heat a modest sized home with the right model.
You want to know more pluses?
- Easier to clean
- Safer to use

Today's Wood Stove Inserts Are Better for You and Your Family
According to the Canadian Standards Association (CSA), if you have one of the wood stove inserts or wood stoves that are more than seven years old, consider replacing it with one of the newer, advanced combustion units.
The EPA-certified emission value can be compared from one model to another. Manufacturers of wood stove inserts have improved their combustion technologies. Some of the newer stoves have lowered their particulate emissions to the range of one to four grams per hour.
The newer certified wood stove inserts have features that promote the secondary combustion. Most of the features are designed to burn off the dangerous chemicals and toxic substances before they leave the firebox and enter your home.
This is achieved when:
- The fire has an adequate supply of oxygen
- The gases from the fires are at high temperature and mixed with preheated air, specifically oxygen
- The gases have enough time to burn before they cool down

Wood stoves are great! Wood is a renewable resource, and the trees do so much for the environment while they are growing. Using that wood in the most efficient way possible is also pretty smart!

I've never heard of such a thing but it looks really neat! We live in Florida, so warmth isn't such a concern but I love a good fire in the fireplace!
