Bottles
Here I show examples of bottles I have built. Woodturners call them bottles because they look like bottles but they can also be called vases. This first example is a big leaf maple burl with an inlaid top.
The link below goes to an article I wrote a while back describing how to build these.

Burl Bottle
This is a big leaf maple burl bottle with a staved neck. The burls are fully hollowed before the neck is glued on so they are quite light. The neck has a hole drilled down through it.
People usually display dried flowers in these bottles.
Staved Bottle
This bottle is made a bit differently. The main body is segmented in layers then staved. This allows the use of the vertical dividers. In this case I lined up the vertical lines in the body with the lines in the neck to give the illusion that they are continuous. This piece was made with oak and bloodwood.

Segmented Bottle
This bottle is segmented all the way up. This type of segmenting takes a lot longer than the pieces above because there are lots of pieces. This piece has a chevron pattern made out of snakewood for the centerband and a matching snakewood stripe in the neck.
The other woods are curly maple and black dyed veneer.
Bottle with a Twist
This bottle is also segmented. Due to the dark color of the African wenge you can't see the segmenting too well but it is indeed segmented. The twist is also a basic segmented ring but "with a twist"The light color wood in the twist and in the neck is from a fir 2 x 4.
Yes framing lumber.
