How to move your blog from Wordpress to Blogger

Recently I had to move a blog from Wordpress to Blogger. Wordpress does not make it easy but there IS a way! Now I am not going to get into the reasons why I was doing this - Wordpress blogging vs Blogger blogging is another discussion to be had at a different time.

However, I had a suspicion that Wordpress would not make the task simple for me. After all they do NOT want their bloggers deserting them for one of their main rivals and who can blame them?

And I was right. When I tried to move the Wordpress posts across to Blogger, using the Wordpress export facility, it was impossible. Surprise, surprise, the files were incompatible and the Blogger import facility would not work.

How did I do it? Drum roll please.....

A nifty conversion utility that made the whole process easy and painless. Well, that is after I spent ages surfing the web to find a workaround. There's quite a few but none that I could actually work with because it meant using code and hey, I am not THAT clever!

So, here's the step by step instructions on how to export all your blog posts from Wordpress to Blogger in just a few minutes. (Note: if your blog files are bigger than 1mb, then sorry, it won't work.)

Oh and as it is freeware it won't cost you a penny. AND you do not have to download it!

Step 1: Set up your Blogger blog!

If you don't already have one

AJs blog

And if you have already posted entries on Blogger, don't worry. The Import from Wordpress won't over-write them, but it makes sense to backup Blogger first using the Blogger Export facility.

Step 2: Backup Blogger

Note: You can skip this step if you have no posts

On your Blogger page select "Customise"

Select the "Settings" tab

Click on "Export Blog"

Backup Blogger

Click on "Download blog"

Blogger backup

Save the file in a folder on your hard drive.

Step 3: Tootle over to Wordpress

AJs Wordpress blog

Open up your Dashboard and on the left hand menu, click on "Tools"

Wordpress Pic1

Click on "Export"

Wordpress Pic2

Click on "Download Export File"

Click "Save"

Wordpress Pic 3

Wordpress will create an export file, which is NOT compatible with Blogger

Save the file to a folder on to your hard drive (remember the name and where you saved it!)

Step 4: Go to the Conversion Webpage

See below for the link

Click HERE to go to Wordpress2Blogger.

Convert pic

Browse for the Wordpress export file that you saved and select it

Click "Convert" and save the file with a new name

Step 5: Blogger Import

Converting Wordpress posts to Blogger posts

On your Blogger page select "Customise"

Select customise

Select the "Settings" tab

Click on "Import Blog"

Blogger Import Blog

Select the file to import

Enter the captcha code

If you want to immediately publish all posts, tick the box

Select file to import

Click "Import Blog"

Sorted!

CCleaner

Another useful piece of Freeware

Does your PC run slow? It's amzing how many temporary files are created whenever you surg the web or do some Squidooing. This Freeware takes no time at all to load and cleans up your PC in only a couple of minutes. It will repair the Registry too.

This is something I want to know -- how can I take my Google blog and pull it into my website(s) -- I have more than a few blog posts and have thought of doing my blogging from my web hosted websites. Is there instructions on the best case scenario for this endeavor?

THANK YOU! People debate if being kind and doing things for free on the web makes sense. If you are looking for immediate payback.."no". If however it is about "paying it forward", then "yes" as you have and will continue to teach what it means to be generous in whatever capacity you can feel you can contribute. I am sure you have been on the receiving end also and therefore can relate, so once again thanks.
