I was sitting at my computer one day thinking about the fact that most writing jobs really don't pay very much. I have puzzled for years about how to use my love for writing to make good money and be present with my children.

My daily routine
The day starts with coffee: 15 minutes with my husband before he disappears to commuterland for 10 to 12 hours a day. "Jake, come and visit us again sometime?" I used to tease, but now I just savor the moments.
My tips for keeping a good work-life balance from home
1. Never use credit for you business unless you are prepared for the first-case scenario.
2. Use a kitchen timer to make sure I don't work at my computer for more than 45 minutes at one sitting (usually my kids make the timer unnecessary!)
