I had been a freelance writer for about 5 years before I started writing for Helium - my first online writing commitment. Mainly, I was writing poetry, flash fiction, short stories and education and poetic prose pieces for small local publications, school magazines and creative writing journals. This form of writing fitted in well with my large and growing family, and with running our other busy businesses from home. It also suited my qualifications - an Honours Degree in English Literature With Education.
Then came the internet! A computer was in our house! It had word-processing and the internet! It beckoned to my writer's side with it's shiny, tappy, tappy new keyboard!
I explored the possibilities! Helium was one of the first online writing sites I looked at and I liked it from the start, mainly because it's smart red and white format was instant - and it was fun to rate and be rated.
Nothwithstanding the ONE CENT I got for that first teaching article on its first day, I enjoyed writing the piece and seeing it appear live. The first article I ever wrote was about Teaching Reading To Challenged Learners. Never mind about the one cent, it went straight to Number One on the first page of the education Section. I was In !
Since then, that article has earned and is still earning me, several dollars which adds up nicely with the other 115 per year, plus the Writing Contest earnings and the revenue I've earned from selling my freelance articles there in the Helium Marketplace. Success doesn't arrive in a flash for newbies, but Helium is a great place to experiment and learn about the very different world of SEO writing.

The result was InspiredWritingResearch.com, my fledgling writing website hosted by the original program I liked, the self-same Affiliate Website Building Program used by my writing colleagues - a site which combines foolproof, guided step by step web page building, an affiliate marketing business program, a helpful forum with a clubby atmosphere where everyone helps everyone else and lots of affiliate product listings, tutorials and fresh work at home marketing updates. THE REASON MY LONDON FUN FOR FREE OR FOR LESS LENS IS SO HIGHLY RANKED is, I firmly believe, that I had already been SEO trained at this Affiliate Website Building Course before I even started to build my lens. I therefore already knew about tagging, optimising,traffic generation,article marketing, back-linking, and all the other little tricks of the trade before I wrote my Squidoo article. I just published it and it started to rise in rank and traffic.
I haven't had much time to develop my site, but have recently returned to it to add, and monetize, some more pages. Freelance Writers And Article Marketers Have Many Agencies To Choose From
Different Freelance Agencies work on different systems. Some you pay upfront to join, some take a commission and some are free on joining - you and the clients only pay when you agree a freelance writing or IT project.
My own favourite is Get A Freelancer as it has a revenue system where funds do not change hands until both parties are satisfied that business has been done effectively. This is called an escrow payment. I recently completed a mutually beneficial project for a client who required a dozen articles on educational games and toys.
They also have a profile or About Me section and a referee system where clients and freelancers can check out each other's record! I now wish to work at home marketing and monetizing my own writing but often dip into Get A Freelancer to see what projects are up!

Here's How Squidoo Fits In To My Online Business Writing And Marketing
I first started writing for Squidoo in May. I had heard about it many times from colleagues on various writing sites and had always made a mental note to check it out but was always frantic with writing commitments elsewhere.
Then, for once, an opportunity arose as I took a break and we went on a short vacation to London for a week! However, I did not enjoy the vacation fully! Why? Oh Dear, it was because I wasn't at work and didn't have my 'Writers' Toolkit' with me!
Even on holiday, I still felt I needed to write so I grabbed a borrowed laptop one evening and decided that I had an ideal opportunity to look up Squidoo.
I could see immediately, with it's speed, ease of use and many interactive merchant and affiliate marketing potential, that I could blend it in with my other writing to enhance my writing portfolio and draw all my work together on the web.
I was lucky! My first Squidoo lens rose quickly (at one point to Number 3 in Travel!) and now hovers up and down in the top 50. I have been very pleased with the revenue compared to many other writing sites and will eventually get round to writing many more lenses! I decided the first of these should be an 'About me !'
Home Marketing with Squidoo helps my writing as it enables me to send traffic to my other article sites, to my Helping Newbie Writers Earn Online website, my Short Stories Editor Site and vice-versa. In that way, my visitors and readers can explore deeper into ideas, services, products and courses I use and recommend by moving from my website to Squidoo - where the product-listing is so much more comprehensive, easier and quicker.
This is something all writers can easily do, and something I intend to add to further in the future.

This piece of writers kit has proved itself a dependable workhorse - and a breath of light entertainment too, when the writers cramp sets in and its time for a little music, a dvd, or some catch-up TV !
My old desk PC had a comprehensive list of hardware and software, but as a writer I found I was becoming more and more confined by it.
New multi-media, web 2.0 platforms and desktop publishing facilities beckoned, but the time finally came to decide between an upgrade with lots of (perhaps not future-friendly) add-ons - or, something more flexible which would give me the freedom of mobility and cutting-edge technology i wanted.
Luckily for me, i made the right choice first-time after a nerve-wracking and mind-blowing cornucopiae of possibilities!
Although I needed something fairly large, and a reasonably large memory, i also wanted to be able to fold up my work - and go! I chose a compromise, with a medium-large screen and enough memory capability for me.
Other Things I love About My Acer Aspire:
1. It has a usb port for a 'proper mouse!' - not just that swirly ball touch sensor pad! Mine has a dinky bright blue flashing light that flickers when the mouse is moved. he, the mouse, has a red light! Much as i wanted a laptop, no way was I going to settle for one with a round-and-round touchpad! So, imagine my joy when I discovered this one!
2. It has three other ports for peripherals, such as my speakers (for the essential live internet radio!), my digital camera card, or for microphones, headsets, printer connection or other hardware.
3. The Acer Aspire has empowering technology, Acer crystalline LCD, Entertainment Arcade Deluxe,Acer eAudio, Acer Signalup,Acer Athlon Mobile Technology,Acer DVD Super multi double-layer, Acer Videoconference (for when i get really famous and powered-up in business) and an Acer Subwoofer! The dog to go with that is extra!
So, what's on my wishlist for Christmas? A smaller one to pop in my purse - yes, from Acer again.
