Now back to our regularly scheduled program...
Is Medical Transcription one of the work-at-home scams I hear about all the time?
I see tons of work-at-home jobs advertised, and they all turn out to be scams. Is Medical Transcription a legitimate business I can do at home?
I understand your concerns. I too have seen all the work-from-home advertisements; they're all over the place, both the Internet and TV.It's hard to know what to believe.
Now, some of them may be legitimate, but I the majority of these are scams.
Medical transcription is not a scam. This is a legitimate real home business opportunity that anyone can learn.
I went to a community college to learn but I actually got a job doing medical transcription before I had even completed the first class. So I could have actually begun work as a medical transcriptionist without any formal education whatsoever. Basically that's what I did.
Even now, looking back on what I learned in school, most of the knowledge I have was obtained through on-the-job education. Meaning I learned almost everything by just doing my job.
Now I work from home (in my pajamas if I want to) only 3 days a week and I make more than I used to working 40 hours!
I've been working as a transcriptionist for more than 13 years now, and I am very happy to be out of the "rat race." I save money on gas because I don't have to drive to work, plus wear and tear on the car.

Okay, I'm interested in learning to work from home doing Medical Transcription but don't I have to be certified or something?
No!If you have heard this, it's totally not true. I am not certified and most of the transcriptionists I know are not certified either. The one who is makes the same amount of money I do.

Future of Medical Transcription
Work from home doing Medical Transcription in your Pajamas! Sounds too good to be true?
You really can do it!Think about it. The economy is not too good right now and many people are worried about their jobs, maybe getting laid off, or possibly not even being able to afford to buy gas and drive back and forth to work.
But people have to go to the doctor no matter how bad the economy is and you will never have to feel your job is in jeopardy when you are working as a medical transcriptionist.
And don't let anyone tell you voice recognition is going to take over. You will see how ludicrous that is once you start listening to the doctors. There will always be a job for us.
Click here to take a look at the step-by-step guide!
How many times have you wanted to fire your boss? Do it! Give him or her the heave ho.
There are many jobs available, and you can find many of them by doing a search online. The company I work for is ALWAYS looking for new transcriptionists.I cannot tell you how many times I've gone to a doctor appointment, mentioned that I am a transcriptionist, and been offered a job.
Doctors just generally have too much work to handle! This is to your benefit, and you can cash in on this.
If you enjoy typing, would like to work from home, and like to learn new things, medical transcription could be the job for you.
You will be required to learn medical terminology and a bit of anatomy and physiology will help you to understand things a little easier, but this is not too hard. If I could do it anyone could, because I was terrible at science, biology, and that sort of thing when I was in high school.

Do I HAVE to work from home in order to do medical transcription? I like going in to the office to work.
And who would I be working for anyway?
Some companies have the majority of their employees work from home, but a few do go into the office to work. These are normally transcription "services," meaning you don't work directly for a doctor or hospital, but you work for a transcription service company who contracts with hospitals and clinics. You might do emergency room charts or orthopaedics, radiology, OB/GYN, operation reports, discharge summaries, clinic charts, just all manner of things. It's very interesting work.
Or you might choose to work for a private doctor or hospital as an employee, and then you would most likely go into the hospital or doctor's office to work. Most of the time you can do either, work from home or work in the office.
You may also decide to start your very own business in which case you would go out and obtain work on your own from doctors, clinics, and/or hospitals. A lot of times you can get the hospital's "overflow" work which is extra work that their regular transcriptionists can't get done.

Dive In To The World of Professional Blogging
A lot of the people who read this site contact me asking for more information on working from home. I wanted to let you know that, while you're working on learning medical transcription or starting up your new career, or even if you are just trying to figure out what you want to do from home, I have a suggestion for you!
I have joined a program called The Niche Blogger that is absolutely hands down THE best step-by-step guide I have ever come across as far as teaching anyone (even if you are brand new) how to make money at home by blogging.
You CANNOT go wrong with this program. I am throwing this in here even though it doesn't have anything to do with the medical field because I believe in this completely. To supplement my medical transcription job I am following the steps in The Niche Blogger program and, even though I just started this a little over a month ago, I am seeing money from it already.
Anyway, you can read the page at The Niche Blogger and see what you think. Amy Bass, the founder, teaches and explains everything and makes it very easy for anyone to learn. Each day you get a new lesson and nothing is left out or left to chance. And if you are stuck there is a forum with GREAT people. You will not find a better group of people at any forum, they are helpful and friendly. It's refreshing to go to a forum and find such a group with no negativity whatsoever to be found.
Anyway, sign up for a month and see what you think. You won't be sorry. I may even quit my medical transcription job if my earnings keep growing from blogging!
Funny Doctor Stuff! Occasionally when I'm working I write down funny things doctors dictate.
These are pretty funny, take a look...
* The patient does act somewhat bizarre and at one point refuses to talk to me, stating that his "tonsils have frozen."* The patient then proceeded to clean up the entire room with a wet towel that he was able to get and tried to borrow the broom from the janitorial staff.
* Although he denies a fall he did say he was inadvertently taken for some money by some ladies of the evening.
* The patient acknowledges smoking approximately 2 packs per day although he states that he does not inhale.
* According to the patient she does have homicidal ideation. There are a number of people she would like to kill.
* CHIEF COMPLAINT: "My liver."
HISTORY OF PRESENT ILLNESS: The patient reports that she is here for liver research. She reports that she thinks "my liver is worth about 65,000" referring to dollars that she wants to receive to have her liver researched.
* On arrival, he is noted to be refusing to wear the hospital gown, has placed the hospital shorts on top of his head.
* He was also seen to tap on the wall and state, "I'm pretty certain that this is a wall."

I have completed my school and graduated with a diploma in health information technology.
Here are the coarses I took that prepared me for a medical job:
Medical Terminlogy,Anatomy & Physiology I & II, Claims Processing Procedures, Medical Office Procedures, Medical Law & Ethics, Diagnosis Coding, Intro to Basic Health Records, Reimbursement, Microsoft Office, Keyboarding I, Pathophysiology, hands on training in my Hospital Internship at a local hospital.
During my work as intern I transcribed from Doctor's dictation, put together medical records and learned a lot about the medical office. I feel that I am qualified for a transcription job at home, but I just need someone to hire me. I enjoy coding(ICD-9, CPT and HCPCS) and trascription. I just need a chance to use the knowledge and experience I have gained thus far.
Thank You
