I used to be like a lot of you probably are right now -- exhausted, angry, sad, stressed...basically, everything that goes with being a mother struggling to get by and provide a better life for my kids.

Let me Let You in on a Little Secret...

By the way, I have a boatload of information about this on my work at home mom blog, but here's an introduction.

What I always recommend to any mom who asks is that you shift your focus a bit when thinking about opportunities that will allow you to stay at home with your kids and still earn a decent living.

By that I mean that you should really give some thought not just to a work at home JOB, but maybe to a work at home BUSINESS.

And I'm not talking about MLM or Amway or anything like that.

Instead, there are any number of packages that even a mom with no experience can use to set up a legitimate online business, for example.

I've been very successful with that approach and recommend it to most wannabe work at home moms for a number of reasons.

1 - A work at home business, such as one in Internet marketing that I mentioned above, allows you true freedom to work when you want and how you want. A work at home job has all the same hassles of domineering bosses, deadlines, etc. as a job out of the house.

2 - You can earn much more from a business than you can from a typical stay at home job where your income is "capped" either by how much someone is willing to pay you, or by how many hours you can work. That's not true for everyone, of course, but ask anyone where the real money is and they'll tell you it comes from owning your own business.

It drives me nuts to see smart, enterprising women trading their time for money the way most work at home jobs force you to do.

A business, by definition, runs by itself whether you're there or not.

Each of my little websites that I set up are like that. They bring me money month in and month out whether I work a lot, a little or don't work at all. (Of course if I totally checked out and NEVER did any work, they'd probably start to need a little help.)

So that's my sermon for today.

Home Businesses Just About Any Mom Can Start for $50 and Under

Now, before you start thinking I'm going to talk about selling crafts from home, or trying to sell dish washing detergent to your neighbors, this isn't about that at all.

This is about legitimate ways to set up a business for about what it would cost you to take the whole family out for dinner (maybe even less).

And you can do it even if you have no business experience whatsoever.

(I know, because that's how I started.)

One of the easiest ways to get started earning money right away is to learn just a little bit about online marketing.

And no, you don't have to be a huge behemoth like Amazon.com to make money with an online business. Heck, you don't even need your own product, because other people will pay you to help spread the word about theirs.

In fact, as long as we're on the subject of Amazon.com, did you know that you actually make money by helping to sell the books and products they offer?

All you would do, for example, is put up a simple little webpage that maybe recommends a list of books that every mom should read.

Then, every time someone goes and buys that book on Amazon, you'd get a little percentage of that sale.

This is called being an affiliate -- and hundreds of thousands of people just like you and me earn extra money, a decent living, or one heck of an amazing income doing nothing but the kind of thing I describe above.

Now, before you rush out and start trying to be the world's most accomplished book reviewer, I should mention that the percentage you get from each person who buys one of those books is very small.

So you're basically talking about a cut that's measured in cents rather than dollars.

BUT HERE'S THE GREAT THING...

Unlike Amazon's affiliate program, where the chances to earn significant money are pretty low, there are hundreds of thousands of other programs just like Amazon's that will pay you $10, $30, $50 and sometimes even over $100 just for telling other people about a product or service you believe in.

I mean, you already tell your friends and family when you find something really great, right?

So this is basically the same thing.

Most moms I know are a little afraid about what's involved in having a home business.

But believe me, it's not any harder than a standard work at home job. And in many ways, it's actually a lot easier.

I don't know how many of you are aware of this, but there is an entire week that celebrates the work at home mom lifestyle.
